Thinking about doing a solo trip to New Mexico - Any solo travellers do this trip and how did it go?

I live in the Albuquerque area and there is no reason not to do this trip solo; it is a wonderful area to visit. I have lots of info on here, if you click my name, you can see my posts.

Come on over! It's easy to get around and we have a lot to see. Check Deb's posts and be sure to visit the New Mexico folder for boatloads of information.

Fall is lovely here - it's my favorite season.

New Mexico is a great destination. If you're driving, there are some long stretches of road without any place to stop for gas or other essential needs. Just plan accordingly. DebitNM has great information here. If you are into birding look at the Bosque del Apache as a destination. It's outside Soccorro.

I thought about that...if I were to choose one destination to get a taste of it - what would you choose?

Albuquerque and Santa Fe are about an hour drive apart [there is also a rail system which is easy to use] so it is easy to see both; you can go to Taos which another hour and half north of Santa Fe [you can do a day trip or overnight].

You could base yourself in either Santa Fe or Albuquerque with ABQ being less expensive accomodations.

Many love Santa Fe and others feel it is too "tourist kitchy" so it is hard to say if you would like it better.

We have wonderful outdoor sites, musuems, restaurants, shopping, Native American reservations, ancient ruins....

What time of year are you thinking about coming here? As Lee Ann said, Fall is the nicest time, but summer is great too. Low humidity, sunny days and cool nights.

We loved Santa Fe in May 2009--too hot for Alaskans but good food and enjoyed driving around.

I've been both to Santa Fe solo and to the Albuquerque/Santa Fe/Taos combo with company. Enjoyed both trips very much, and the second one would have been fine solo as well. There are many great threads here on places to go in all these areas, if you do a search.

As to your question about which destination to choose if you choose just one...how much time do you have?
