Actually my daughter went to the boardwalk on Wed. and loves the funnel cake! I had some last year when we were there. It's yummy!!

Four of us went over again on Sat. where we had the mediocre meal at Stagnaro's, then hubby and son were called back again the next day and I advised on Bittersweet Bistro which was a hit.

Now that I have some great advice on great meals in SC, at least I won't starve next trip! LOL We're headed over to Carmel next week and I have to try this Phil's Fish Market in Moss Landing, I just saw it mentioned in Sunset for great fish and chips.

I have some great memories of Moss Landing. We used to go to an antique shop there frequently when we were first married. I remember being five months pregnant and fainting there. The shop owner had me lay down in that boat out front until I felt better.

Does anyone know what happened to that restaurant that was built over the water? I saw it was boarded up. ***kim***

Yes, Al Dente! The food is good, the owner is nutty, the place is small and packed and there's often techno music blaring, it's quite an experience.

I agree El Palomar is not haute cuisine. The chips are straight out of a jumbo bag from Costco and the food is average to good (Mexican standards), but it's a reliable, fun standby for a lively Friday night outing.

For pizza we enjoy Engfers, also on Seabright, just a few blocks from Al Dente (going away from the ocean). Very tasty pizzas, good crust, and sauce that's a bit different than run of the mill. And a good selection of beer and fun sodas. Downtown SC we like Kianti's pizza and pasta, on the corner of Pacific across from the bus station area/new condos. It's got great atmosphere, crowded Fri/Sat night, big glass windows for people watching, and beer and wine. The caprese appetizer is good and we love the pizza--not too thick, not too thin, good toppings and a tasty crust. They don't give you bread though.

And my favorite of all time is Pizza My Heart, half a block up from Kianti's on Pacific. Enormous pies cut into big floppy not-too-greasy-or-cheesy slices with a thin, crispy crust that is the closest I've found to being like NYC pizza. Ohh, it hits the spot. I crave it badly, a lot.

Jack's burgers is good too, behind Pacific over by the Nick theater.

We eat a lot when I'm in Santa Cruz.

love
