Santa Clara University/shopping
My daughter & I are leaving early in the morning for a quick collge visit to Santa CLara. I am wondering if there are any shopping opportunities in the area?
Thanks,
Betsy

We liked Santa Clara very much. We used to live in that area. The campus is beautiful, the facilities are very nice. They are currently building a new library. I think it will be ready in 2008. The San Jose airport is very close. The univ. runs a shuttle for students. (we live in PA--this is a plus for us) The Caltrain station is very close. So it would be easy to go into SF. We were impressed with our admissions counselor, and our student tour guide. My son would be very happy there. His application is in, now we just wait.

My daughter went there for a summer session a few years ago (we live close by in San Jose). She loved it. CalTrain is great, and there is a free bus to the airport (SJC) from the CalTrain station. There's dining and coffee places (Mission City Coffee is one of my faves) within walking distance.

If our kids both decide to go there, we will both have to exchange names. My daughter seems most interested in Univ of Denver at this point, but things could change with a visit.

What a coincidence to find this thread tonight as my daughter just received her acceptance letter to SCU today. She is not sure if she'll attend as she is awaiting other acceptance (we hope) letters, but the school is very high on her list. Glad to read the good things written by posters here.

I too have fond memories attending a summer session at SCU. It was the summer that the Olympic torch came to the campus and the runners ran the torch along El Camino Real; the Greek Olympic swim team had been training at the school facilities. I was able to ride my bike into San Jose which was very bicycle friendly at the time. I loved it. That was back in the mid 80's and I haven't been back since.

We were back late Saturday from San Jose. We both really liked the school, only negative was that all the kids were gone so we didn't get to see the school "in action". There are so many positives, my daughter said it looked like a resort,I kept looking for the golf course. Loved that it was so close to the airport, with Caltrain right there. Small class size, professors accesible, if it is half as good as it was said to be, it should be very good! Liked the RLC concept.
Good size, not small but not too big.
Ap is in but we won't hear until mid-March. Santa Clara & Univ of Denver are her top choices at this point(we live in Colorado). After Friday at the school, we spent Saturday morning at the mall. I don't do this much but it was fun & we were very impressed at all the stores. LHG & KathyrnT let's stay in touch.

Hi to BetsyG and LHG (and any other Santa Clara U enthusiasts!)
I'm just wondering if your children have decided to attend SCU. My daughter finally decided last night and I'm delighted both with her choice (SCU) and with the fact that the decision is made. Now we just have to figure out how to pay for it all... so much for travel for the time being.

Decisions, Decisions....DS has still not decided. He has narrowed it down to two schools. One is $$$$, the other, is a great school that offered him a great package. We just arrived home last night from an admitted student day in CA (not SCU). He'll have to decide soon. The deadline is quickly approaching. I'll let you know what he decides.
Hopefully, the other posters to this question will also chime in.

I'm amazed I saw this, have been thinking of contacting you all. I think my daughter will be going to Univ. of Denver, she goes there for an overnighter on Sunday. Santa Clara was her other choice, was going to do their overnighter tomorrow but decided she doesn't want to miss school with the AP tests coming up. DU is giving her more money. Will let you know what she decides.

For what it's worth---our daughter is a freshman at SCU right now. She chose it over several other schools, both large and well-known (UW) and small (Gonzaga). She is very happy with her choice---loves her small classes, the lovely campus, and the oopportunity to get up to San Francisco now and then.
Not to mention the weather.
