Santa Barbara-Inn of the Spanish Garden, Canary/Kimpton or something else!

Wanting relaxing quiet week in early June. We are early 50's, seeking culture/shopping/walking to restaurants. Anyone have experiences with either of these places or have suggestion? Budget about 300/nt.

A few months ago, my wife stayed at the Canary for several nights.

Being right downtown, it was easy to walk to the many top downtown restaurants .

She took pictures of the interior of her room and asked if I'd see if I could buy some of the fixtures. One of the lamps was $1,200, a tad bit over my budget.

However, the room was beautiful.

The Inn at Spanish Garden is the one we've chosen for our first trip to Santa Barbara, based on a recommendation from friends who have a home there.

We just came back from staying at the Inn of the Spanish Garden and we thought it was wonderful. The location is great and we could easily walk to many of the places we wanted to go. The service was excellent. Our room was very large and well appointed. Breakfast was included in the price as was parking and wifi. And they have free fresh baked cookies every day.

i recently stayed at the Canary and while the room was lovely, i really did not care for the location at all. i liked being walking distance to the restaurants and downtown area but the Canary was located in an area that isnt' as nice as you would think for Santa Barbara. I wouldn;t recommend it for only that reason.

Inn of the Spanish Garden was nice, but expensive and not as special as I was expecting.

The Fess Parker Doubletree is nice. Right across from the beach. Our room had a nice balcony patio with a view.

What were your concerns about the area, Kelbo? Thanks for all your responses!

We stayed at the Canary this past March and liked it. We walked to all of our restaurants which were excellent and the art museum. The location is perfect and certainly the center of Santa Barbara. If being in the center of Santa Barbara isn't nice enough for someone, I can't imagine where else would be. Maybe Kelbo is thinking of a different hotel.

to follow up...yes, I know the hotel well and am not mistaken about it. The hotel is in an " urban" location for Santa Barbara..it is across the street from a Greyhound bus station. If I were traveling for work or just a day or two to SB then it would be fine. If I wanted to spend a relaxing, quiet week with my sweetie in Santa Barbara I wouldn't pick this hotel. Again, this is just my personal opinion. Like I said, the room itself is very charming and it is a nice property.
