dburand, of course you are right, the laws are the same in LA, the Santa Barbara police are probably more diligent about enforcing the law, if this driver was so concerned about giving us the right of way on a pedestrian crosswalk. Perhaps, he has been ticketed in the past? Who knows.

We left Santa Barbara around 11:00am, an early start for us. I am always surprised when we are able to drive straight home without hitting any traffic congestion. We were home in just over two hours. I guess the summer traffic and higher gas prices are keeping a lot of drivers off the road. When the freeways move, it's terrific.
There's always a bit of apprehension when we open the door, but the house was fine, and there was a nice thank you note and a bottle of wine. Actually, I had few concerns, our telephone conversations and e-mail exchanges gave us a good feeling. J sounded responsible and conscientious and indeed she was.
We had a wonderful time in Santa Barbara; I can complete this travel report saying what I usually do when a home exchange ends, that I was fortunate to spend a week in a lovely spot, in comfortable surroundings. I am very lucky indeed.
