Going to Sanibel Island, Fl. in July.Looking for best in sites to see,greatest tasteing food, night life..Anything to avoid?

I've never been to sanibel but I heard it is beautiful. If you want to get some info on it just log into www.travelbase.com and click on Destination, Florida, Sanibel. On list will come up with just about anything you need to know. Hope you have a great trip.

I was born in Ft. Myers and have practically grown up on the Island. There are no stop lights on Sanibel, very little commercial businesses, and quaint restraunts. The best place to stay would definately be South Seas Plantation. That resort is on the island of Captiva. It has a bunch of great places to eat; Chadwicks, The Bubble Room, The Mucky Duck, etc. There is golf, tennis, awesome beaches, places to rent boats, jet skiis, etc. You can always drive around Sanibel for the Shell Museum, Shopping, and Ding Darling Natural Preserve. You are also very close to Ft. Myers, if you prefer to go to movies, and "popular" restraunts like Outback, Lonestar, Macaroni Grill, and more. Just be aware that each time you leave Sanibel, you pay a toll of $3.00 to get back on. However it is definately a place you MUST visit!

We live very near Sanibel and go there several times a month. Other posts have mentioned all the top tourist restaurants..here are some with more innovative & sophisticated food...Mangia e Bevi, wonderful Italian food right on Periwinkle..The Greenhouse Grill also on Periwinkle on Sanibel..for a place you can show up in your bathing suit or almost anything try the Lazy Flamingo (original one near the Sanibel/Captiva pass..JFK Jr. and his new wife spent an evening there and were thrilled because no one bothered them or took their picture.I would charter a small boat and do the back bay of Pine Island Sound to see the birds, fish, dolphin and manatees..take a canoe from Tarpon marina nearDing Darling national refuge..Night life & Sanibel are mutually exclusive..early walks on the beach, lazy afternoons, wine & sunset are what we're about.
