Sanibel Island, Florida

Seeking opinions on nicest accommodations on Sanibel for a 4 day trip during March. Trying to keep 2 teen girls happy because Mama wants to go shelling. Nice pool area with pretty beach access a must. Thanks.

Not very helpful I know, but we stayed at a lovely place, about 12 years ago, right on the beach, it was called Loggerhead Cay. It was our first visit to florida & we loved it. Our kids were then 15 & 18.

Maybe you should keep going to Captiva and stay at South Seas resort

West Wind Inn, beachfront ... very nice pool area, with food and beverages, Normandy Cafe right there, and great shelling! westwindinn.com

You are limited because so many places only rent by the week. We are heading there in 2 weeks and staying at Loggerhead Cay. It is one of the more affordable properties during peak season. We stayed there last year also.

I went through VRBO to see what property owners had availability and might rent to me last minute for the 3 extra days we are staying, but many places require they only rent by the week. We have an additional 3 nights and will be staying at 'Tween Waters Inn during that time on their 3 nt special. Sanibelsmallins.com also shows properties that offer daily rentals.

West Wind Inn is nice and so are most of the properties on Sanibel. We have stayed at South Seas but it is a huge resort--we prefer to be on Sanibel in a smaller property. The Holiday Inn on Sanibel is very nice. We stayed many years ago at some very rustic, old Florida cottages on the beach--maybe Mitchell's Sand Castles. OK but definitely not luxurious and right on the beach.

We love to bike, my husband golfs, we read on the beach, take long walks, jog. Since you like shelling, you will be in heaven. There is a nice dolphin boat cruise, kayaking at Ding Darling, cute shops and affordable restaurants. We enjoy Sanibel.

Sanibel properties are expensive during the high season. We go down every year but it seems to me that they are getting ridiculously expensive. $2000 for the week is common. Pointe Santo is between $2500-$3000 for the week. We try to stay under $200/day so our choices are getting limited.

I always post a trip report so I will let you know about our visit in February.
