Sanibel Island

Anyone know of a nice but reasonable resort in Sanibel for a family of five? Sometime in June for about five days. We have heard it's beautiful there

We are heading to Sanibel for our first time and will be staying at Casa Ybel. Have heard it is a good family place. You might want to check it out. Any respones are welcome.

There is already lots of information on the board about Sanibel -- this may be why you haven't gotten many responses. Just do a text search for Sanibel and select Florida from the state list -- you'll find many reviews of Sanibel resorts/inns and even some specifically about Casa Ybel.

In April, we stayed at Blind Pass Condos on Sanibel. Very nice and resonably priced. Nice pool and short walk to great shelling beach. Check out their website at blind-pass.com

I have posted about Sanibel before. We have gone every February for the last 20 years (we live in New England, that's why!) and just love it.

We stay at Casa Ybel which is pricey in winter high season, but much less in June.
Website: http://www.casaybelresort.com/
You can rent a 2-bedroom condo with all amenities, great for a family. It's right on the Gulf with a restaurant, wonderful pool, tennis courts, children's programs, bikes to rent, etc.

i just got an email from flycheap. com that had a great deal for the sun dial resort on sanibel in june. we are going to sanibel in october so i was curious about it. the sun dial is a full scale resort and they had a condo (that slept four) for 3 nights for $585 or something like that.

Yes. Blind Pass Condos are great, inexpensive, and kids love it there. Our condo had VCR movies, puzzles, games, swim toys and noodles, buckets for shelling, beach towels and chairs, menus from all of the island restaurants - it was just great. I would return in a heartbeat.

A couple of things to note: It is possible to stay for only 5 days in the summer, but during high season (before May) everything rents in 7 day chunks.

Also, the pool at Blind Pass has adult swim hours once or twice a day. It's not very inconvenient as it's usually just an hour or so, but the adults who live there are very stringent about getting their private pool time so they can lap swim etc. without kiddles getting in the way. Just take note of the pool schedule so your kids don't get snapped at. :)

We stayed at the Tradewinds resort and it was absolutely beautiful. The pool and views were the best. Also the rooms are equiped with kitchenettes. Our kids loved this homey resort. Sanibel island is just lovely, and the people who live on the island are very friendly as well. There is also a state park on the island to view alligators close up. Just can't say enough about the charm of Sanibel.

We have stayed at both the Sundial & also the Song of the Sea. Sundial was a very modern hotel that was fine. Our 2nd time we wanted something a bit more "cosy" so we stayed at Song of the Sea. It was great. We had a ground floor room that had a screened porch on the beach. You could sit there & watch the sun set & we even saw a thunderstorm in Ft Myers. It wasn't raining by us but the lightening was a neat sight. They also had a hut on the beach where you could clean fish if you caught them. There is also a pool & they have kids activities arranged with nearby resorts.
Sanibel is not the place for people craving excitement every minute but the shelling is wonderful and the slower pace is addicting. There was also a good bakery on the island that had great key lime goodies. Check online because I noticed that quite a few places are offering discounts of 30% plus $10 off a night if you don't want daily housekeeping.

Have fun!
