Sandwich cottage - June or July?

My husband and I are considering renting a cottage for a week in the Cape (with our toddler). I've found a cute-looking (tiny) cottage in Sandwich (on the beach) - which would be ideal with such a little one. I understand the town is quaint and less crowded than others - I'm interested in hearing more about it- is it a good, family-friendly location, lots of casual restaurants, scenic walks/biking, proximity to other sites?

Also, the bigger question is do we shell out the extra cash to go in July (when the price jumps up quite a bit) or take the week of June 14 - opinions???

If you want to take the little one in the water, then you have to take the July option. In mid-June the water will be really cold.

Sandwich is a charming town, conveniently placed right at the beginning of the Cape. Be sure to take your tot to the carousel at the Heritage Museum and Gardens in Sandwich.

I don't have any specific advice about Sandwich but I personally would choose July. June can be wonderful but it can also be quite chilly. If beach related activities are important, go with July.

If you are planning on a lot of in the water/beach time July is the better choice. June can be quite cool. You could google for past temps to get an idea. That being said, on the Cape you never know what the weather will be. Even if June is nice the water will still be cold.

The Thornton Burgess Museum (Peter Rabbit) is in Sandwich. Sandwich has a lovely, well preserved historical town center that would be nice to walk through.

You could drive to Hyannis and take the scenic train. www.capetrain.com . It goes through Sandwich and stops at the railroad bridge and returns.

Is September and option?

I would take July even with the more expensive price tag.

Sandwich is on the Cape Cod Canal and there is a nice bike trail along it.

Thanks for the feedback - we ended up finding a different cottage that was a little less expensive, but right on East Sandwich beach, for a week in July. Can't wait!!
