Sands Regency vs. Others
Hi again! Down to the wire: are Sands Regency rooms MUCH worse than Peppermill, ElDorado and Nugget? I love the idea of sitting in their 17th floor picture window area jacuzzi!
Can I walk from here to the Legacy/Edorado/Circus cluster? Is it safe around it? Thanks again! |
I assume it's Reno, NV.
Rooms are ordinary, nothing to write home about. Yes, it's a short distance to walk, but I wouldn't do it at night. If you're looking just for a clean place to sleep, then it's OK. If you're looking for a nicer place - keep looking. We've stayed there with Lucky tours from San Francisco. Hint: the cheap tour buses have an agreement with this place. Nothing negative about this hotel as a budget place, but if you're used to luxury you won't feel good there. |
Tks FainaAgain! Well, it actually doesn't look that bad from pics I've seen, and location could be worse.
Nugget, Peppermill, Atlantis, and ElDorado offer rates for about $15 more per night, worth it??? |
I don't know. Eldorado, maybe.
Are you sure, your choice is Reno? Honestly, I'd rather stay in a cheap South Tahoe motel. |
The Sands had re-done some of their rooms ( I have a friend that works there in maintenance)..ask if you can get one of the new ones. Downtown is changing and the train trench just opened, so the trains run below street level as they come through town. The ice rink, at the old Mapes site, is almost ready to open..don't know if that would interest you and, there are a lot of people on this board that continualy trash Reno and I haven't said anything because a lot of the critism was NOT without merrit, but there is a lot of work going on downtown and new retail moving in, buildings being re-done, so if you haven't been here for awhile maybe you shouldn't be so quick to call it a dump.

FainaAgain, we stay in Reno for the North Shore skiing, then move down to SLT for 4 nights, to ski Heavenly.
crefloors, your Reno will turn around and be the envy of others some day soon, and I agree not all can be as bad as some mention. So, you agree Sands is okay for the lower price compared to others I mention? |
I am not really a basher, it's just last time we were there, my husband was playing at Silver Legacy, and I walked out to check the souvenir stores, Creeflors, remember where Ethel M chocolate store was?
Most of them are out of business, mostly homeless in the streets, and it was in the middle of the day. Depressing!! I live in San Francisco, the bums don't easily scare me, but in Reno, in the central casino area, it didn't feel right. The rest of the town looks fine, probably a nice place to raise a family, but to visit... I don't know, not for me. |
I live here so of course I don't stay in any of the hotels..I think the Sands will be fine..like I say, they have re-done a lot the last couple of years. It's as safe as anyplace in any city..the usual warnings. The Peppermill has started their expansion so that is going to be just a mess for a long time. Legacy and Eldorado are nice but I don't know if worth the extra bucks. So, hope you have a good visit.

By the way..I think you mentioned you had kids with you...the ice rink opened tonight. 5.00 adults and 3.00 kids, if you might be interested.
