Sandford Airport

I am traveling to Florida next week and I just realized that my airport is not Orlando Int. is Sanford Airport. Can someone please tell me if there is a shuttle bus that I can take to Staybridge Suites Lake Buena Vista or how to get there. I really don't want to rent a car.

Any suggestions?

Bad mistake, it is Sanford and in the middle of the boonies.

letty33 May 19th, 2016 12:21 PM

Well, its the only flight from my hometown. The ticket says Orlando/Sanford Airport.

Thank you for the info. I really appreciated it.

tomfuller May 19th, 2016 12:23 PM

Sanford is the south end of the Auto Train if you wanted to load your own car in Lorton VA.
Almost as bad as the guy that got off the train in Las Vegas New Mexico instead of taking the connector bus to Las Vegas Nevada.

A taxi is probably an option for you.

sludick May 19th, 2016 06:23 PM

Ugh. Well, not a taxi, for sure. Although both Sanford and Lake Buena Vista are in the Central Florida metro area, Sanford is in the far NE quadrant and LBV in the SW. You will have to travel through traffic around 50 miles, and right now I-4 is under serious construction and a real mess.

A rental car and taking the 417 loop to avoid I-4 might be the best for you. Or maybe try Uber?

Sorry..

"A rental car and taking the 417 loop to avoid I-4 might be the best for you. Or maybe try Uber?"

Better advice could not be given. Avoid I-4 through downtown at all cost.

This link will give you the various transportation companies serving the Sanford airport:

http://www.orlandosanfordairport.com...mo_shuttle.asp

Keep in mind as you look at websites that travel time estimates do not factor in the current construction situation. If your arrival coincides in any way with rush hour periods, you might need to multiply that several times if you become an I-4 hostage.

doug_stallings May 20th, 2016 07:57 AM

Even if you don't want to rent a car, you may be better off doing that. It's going to cost you about $150 to take a car service to the hotel. That's each way. A rental car will be much less.

flpab May 20th, 2016 08:29 AM

Just bring your GPS. Maybe you could split a service with someone else on your flight. Are you flying on Allegiant?

letty33 May 20th, 2016 10:10 AM

Thank you very much for your information.

Yes, I am flying with Allegiant.

tomfuller May 20th, 2016 10:19 AM

In some areas Allegiant likes to bundle car rentals and hotels along with the flight. Check on the Allegiant website.

Somebody mentioned to take a taxi to Seminole Centre and then get a bus LYNX to Orlando.

What do you think?

doug_stallings May 20th, 2016 11:38 AM

To me relying on Orlando area public transit sounds like a nightmare that will likely take hours, but if you are really that resistant to driving and aren't willing to spring for the cost of a car service, I don't see many options. There are no shuttles available, so it's really 1) private transfers; 2) driving a rental car; or 3) whatever you can find out about public transit.

"Somebody mentioned to take a taxi to Seminole Centre and then get a bus LYNX to Orlando.

I think that sounds like a nightmare. Here is a map of the lynx system and it looks like multiple transfers and probably several hours from Sanford/Seminole Town center to Lake Buena vista.

http://www.golynx.com/resources/pdf/...Map-042416.pdf

My advice, rent a car and take the 417.

Orlando_Vic May 20th, 2016 04:00 PM

"Somebody mentioned to take a taxi to Seminole Centre and then get a bus LYNX to Orlando."

That is not a practical solution. Either use Uber or a taxi (and pay a king's ransom), or rent a car an take SR 417 as others have suggested.

OR . . . possibly cancel your flight and book w/ an airline that actually serves where you want to go. (A connecting flight will likely be a lot easier than this mess)

HappyTrvlr May 21st, 2016 10:17 AM

You probably paid a bargain price to fly on Alligiant Airlines so paying for a taxi or rental car needs to be part of your travel planning.

letty33 May 21st, 2016 11:06 AM

Thank you very much for your info.

I am canceling the flight. I am glad I ask you otherwise it would have been a nightmare.

I have traveled to several countries and I always get answers to questions that I might have through this forum and all the time they have been assertive.

Thank you again!

janisj May 21st, 2016 11:57 AM

>>You probably paid a bargain price to fly on Alligiant Airlines<<

IME Alligiant is seldom a bargain because they charge extra for everything. Their main benefit is they serve several secondary markets/routes that have few other options. But one pays for that.

letty33: What town were you flying out of? Maybe there is another airport you could use.

letty33 May 21st, 2016 04:32 PM

Nope, the nearest airport is 3 hours away and is allegiant too.

Thanks

janisj May 21st, 2016 04:38 PM

>>Nope, the nearest airport is 3 hours away and is allegiant too.<<

Wow (!) you must really live in the boonies :) . . . kidding. I know how difficult connections can be. Are you in the upper midwest?

letty33 May 23rd, 2016 11:31 AM

I am in South Texas.

For the Uber, do I need to download an app?

I googled an estimate with Uber and it says $75-$99.

Could it be right?

Orlando_Vic May 23rd, 2016 11:39 AM

Yes, you do need the Uber app. However, do a web search for first time user promo codes. They are out there.

An estimate of $75-$99 is not unreasonable, given the distance.

Consider Lyft (another app-based ride share service), too. Lyft is more generous with first-time rider credits. I have been offered a $50 credit many times.

We much prefer Sanford airport to the International airport. It is less crowded and simple, pick up your luggage and step out to the car rental. If you get a car just head for I-4 and its a straight road to Lake Buena Vista. Taxis are at the door too. Dont know about current road works though on I-4 as mentioned.

flpab May 23rd, 2016 02:53 PM

It all depends on time and traffic. Sometimes 417 is better.

Did you have trouble cancelling? My brother booked with them when my Dad was dying and he spent hours trying to change his flight. He gave up and booked a new one after he passed. You can't get a human.

Allegiant has had some bad press here lately. Long delays and broken planes. I have flown them twice because they had a flight to Plattsburg, NY but now just take jet blue to Albany from Orlando. Same driving distance. We liked it because it was straight through but now Jet Blue has started this flight so am happy.

letty33 May 24th, 2016 04:40 PM

As a matter of fact, I did not cancel because I waited for an hour and a half on the phone trying to talk to a human. My flight is in two days and still debating on going. My plans are to get to Brandon or Seffner and the Uber estimate according to Google is $75-99. Which is not bad for the distance and the fact that I don't have to drive
