Sand Diego Hotels Bahia vs Humphrey's

We are going in April - 2 adults and 2 kids (11 & 14). We like/need a suite type room so we have some space. I was looking at Bahia and Humphrey's Half Moon.

Bahia is slightly more expensive, but not much.

We plan on doing the usual San Diego activities - Sea World, the Zoo etc. We will have a rental car.

What are pros and cons of each?

Thanks.

Interesting choice. Here is what I am thinking. Many people like Bahia for the location. I am personally not wild about the hotel itself, but it has been many years since I have stayed there. But the location is walking distance, long walking, and especially biking distance from Mission Beach, which is where all the action is. It is on an actual beach where you can swim.

Humphreys I really like. Nice hotel, nice rooms, very good restaurant and some nights they have concerts. It is on a penninsula and is quieter and more private. It is a beautiful place to go for a walk or a jog. BUT the location isn't as good as Bahia for stuff to walk to. YOu are a little restricted and there isn't much, but if you have a car that might not be a problem. So depends on what you want.

Have you looked into Catamaran? That is a great hotel too, but right on Mission Beach and walking distance to everything.

Thanks for the idea.

Unfortunately Catamaran has no rooms available for our time period.

I am leaning towards Humphrey's at this point - I don't mind getting in the car to drive.

Thanks.

Humphrey's is a beautiful place and I love going to the concerts there, but be aware that many locals (myself included) think the food is mediocre. I've only eaten there once (once was enough) and the risotto was all mush and everything seemed oversalted. Definitely have lunch at Point Loma Seafood, though, which is nearby on Harbor Drive. Enjoy your stay!

humphrey's is a nice place and when my relatives stayed there a few years ago, they loved it.
however, if your kids are active and if you'll let them venture out on their own, the bahia would be much better. there are many cement paths in the area so you can easily bike, blade or walk around. if i were a kids, i'd enjoy the access to action of the bahia. another advantage is if half of your party wants to stay at the beach longer then the others, it is within walking distance.

We stayed in August at Best Western Island Palms, which is next door to Humphrey's. Shelter Island is a man-made spit of land (they used stuff they dredged out of the harbor) and is a nice place to walk, although not much to walk to. Marina is on one side, water and airport on the other - the whole "island" is really only a few hundred yards wide.

We liked the location - easy to connect to major highways to drive to anywhere. Since it is April, beach is less a priority than in summer.

Our kids are 13 and 17 and we had a suite at the Best Western. 2 Queen beds, LR with sofa bed, full kitchen and either balcony or patio. Plenty of room for the 4 of us and price was lower than Humphrey's.
