San Simeon Accommodations

I'm a Canadian planning to travel down the coast from San Francisco to San Diego and wanted to visit the Hearst Castle. Problem is during the end of June the rates are high. Is there anything say 75 to 80 dollars US.
Try looking at places at Moonstone Beach in Cambria or Morro Bay. Neither are far from Hearst Castle. If that doesn't work, you can go about 1 hour inland to San Luis Obispo, which is a college town, with all types of prices. Good luck.

I would look in Morro Bay and San Luis Obispo. I think that Cambria and Moonstone Beach are more expensive than MB and SLO. I don't know that you will find anything in your price range since the end of June is the high season on the CA coast. Maybe you could try Priceline to get better rates.

The last time I was through there, San Simeon even had a Motel 6!

A friend of mine recently stayed at the Motel 6 in San Simeon and was happy with the accomodations for the price. He got the room for $48 a night. It's not on the beach, but is located just across Hwy 1. There are a number of other motels along this same stretch of the road. You can book right online and reserve for next summer.

We found Morro Bay a delightful overnight stop. Reasonable accomodations and the harbor area has some nice eateries.

I stayed at the Silver Surf Inn in San Simeon - somewhere between Motel 6 and Best Western in terms of quality. I only paid around $50 for a single room, Thanksgiving weekend. Do a search on Yahoo for San Simeon motels - there are probably several in your price range.

Brian,
I think you should go for Moonstone Beach in Cambria (as suggested above).
The rates may be slightly higher than SLO (although, on one of my trips, I was able to get a room for $80.00 U.S.), but the location and town are enjoyable, and you'll feel that you got more than just a place to sleep. You may even decide to stay for more than one night. And it's very close to San Simeon.

Morro Bay is just 30 minute south of Hearst Castle and is one of my favorite coastal towns. Casual and fun. The Embarcadero is a great place to wander around. Fish & chips galore.

We stayed at Cambria Pines Lodge, very pleasant and a nice restaurant, for $65--Entertainment Rate or try calling direct and inquire about any other promotional rates.

Is Cambria Pines that lodge on Moonstone Beach just as you turn off Hwy 1 or am I thinking of something else?
