San Rafael Bridge to OAK: Refresh My Directions, please.

We ususally take the airporter to SFO when our travels include flying, yet this trip has us winging out of OAK. We have not flown out of OAK for sometime (10 years) and I need a refresher course on how to drive there.

Does the damaged freeway at the Mac Maze impact our journey ?

We'll be leaving southern Sonoma County on a Sat at 9:00AM to make a 12:30 flight-is this enough time ?

Also, OAK has been remodled since we were last there- any major differences to be aware of ? Is it more of a zoo now ?

Thanks for any info !

Which airline are you flying? Southwest has a list of times posted by aiport by day of the week.

The airport was a zoo a year ago when SW wing was remodeling. A month ago it was back to normal.

the roads are here:

The 80 West/580 East to 880 South connector is open. They have closed it at night a few times I think though.

Maybe double check on the Cal Trans Website a few days before your flight.

R5: Cross the S/R Bridge, #580 to #80 to #880, exit Hegenberger Road, right turn to OAK.

The #880 connector has been repaired/opened but closed off between 8 pm and 7 am for the #580 connector replacement. Don't know when you are traveling but the general contractor C.C. Meyers has an ambitious schedule promising everything restored before Memorial Day weekend. He stands to make millions from the incentives.

Didn't see any cute animals at OAK when I was there twice 2 weeks ago, weekends tend to get crowded. Do you have check-in luggage? The curbside check-in lines were long on the weekends so give yourself ample time. You can always grab a bite while waiting to board.

Not sure about the parking rates, and don't know how long you'll be gone and how many in your party, might want to do a cost comparison with airporter.

Hey Faina~thanks for the terminal map-not southwest, so we are out of Terminal 1

F&B-Good idea to check the Caltrains site.

Shanghainese-???????
Mapquest routes us the
"old way"-580 to 980/24 to 880 S
It opts out of the more direct route
you advise-thoughts ??????

No animals-dadgumit ! I love zoos (lol!)
Yes we have checked luggage-it's
my Dad's 90th Birthday and we'll be bearing a few gifts

Yep, the plan is to be early and have
a bite.

Thanks all !

R5: Not Caltrains! F&B meant CALTRANS.

Looks like F&B recommends the new way and it's my way too, newer freeway, wider & faster, tho some swear by the old way.

Lucky dad, happy birthday to him!

I love to read your local recommendations, if you'd like to go from Sonoma to Shanghai, see you on the Asia board. And check out the Fodorites SF GTG on 5/23.

Right Shanghainese-I knew it was Caltrans-just spelled it wrong-although I would love to be able to hop on a train to go to ANY
airport/ferry-the North Bay has such a dismal infrastructure.

When Shanghai gets closer to the top of our list, you'll be the 1st one I
go looking for-right now Hondurus is up !

Mr R5 has to drive as he will come home before me and head straight to work-
lucky duck-ha-ha !

Yes, I have seen the SF GTG postings for the 23rd-I have a Board Mtg that eve
so I cannot swing it-you all have a fabulous time !!

I'd prefer to just go 80/880 faster way, yet the CalTRANS website shows the "old way" on it's Ramp Replacement page-so I was hoping to find someone who had just driven to OAK and back from
the North Bay.

Thanks !

By the way, if you go to Google, Maps (on top) ask for driving directions from Sonoma to Shanghai, you'll get them

Of course, it will advise you to swim on the way, but it will give you step-by-step driving directions! It's hilarious!
