SAN ONOFRE CAMPGROUND??

Has anyone stayed at this campground? I've heard the beach is great but thats about it.
A large group Moms and our kids (husbands get to stay home) of us have stayed for years at South Carlsbad State beach but it is full for when we want to go.

Or does anyone have a suggestion for condos or house rentals in the Carlsbad or North County coastal area of San Diego? We are 4 adults and our 7-10 (7-18 year old)kids.

Yes, the beach is nice and uncrowded except for the surf crowd. The campground is a little Spartan- few trees and right across from the train tracks for a late-night rumble. You might check San Clemente which has better sites with views overlooking the water. Expect a farther walk down to the beach down long trails as opposed to S. Carlsbad or San Elijo. If you have any military connection, you might look into the Camp Pedleton San Onofre Beach Recreation area- maybe even rent a trailer there.

Steve,

Thanks very much for the input. Have you stayed at the campground in Camp Pendleton? What did you think?

Have u considered the Doheney State Park for camping. Just a little further north and a lot more going on in the nearby area.

Fodors really needs to start a thread for RVers. I have a million questions on various campgrounds and when you post a thread on this board you are treated like a second class citizen because you have one of those infernal machines that hog the roads.
