Im traveling w/ my 8 yr old daughter with my husband. We'll be staying at Sycamore Springs. Any good places worth visiting around the area? thanks!

That depends on your definition of "worth visiting."

How long will you be staying here, and what kind of things do you want to do?

There are various beaches, hiking, the Mission, a number of downtowns to peruse, restaurants, Farmer's markets, wineries, etc.

In addition to the Central Coast wine country both north and south of SLO include a visit to Morro Bay and Morro Rock, the Madonna Inn in SLO is unusal and worth having breakfast or lunch to see the decor. Hearst Castle in San Simeon is a bit north on Highway 1, and Pismo Beach is a bit soputh, both worth visits. If you are in SLO on a Thursday night be sure you take in the Hiegura(sp) Street farmer's market..

Just up the road from Sycamore is the "Barn" where kids can feed the animals--check out the fresh fruit, candies and ice cream!
Rent bikes and ride on the beach at Pismo. Walk out on the piers at Avila to see the sea lions and Pismo to see the resident pelicans.

I like the Avila Barn also, and Pismo Beach is a great place for kids. I think it's only a ten minute drive from Sycamore Springs. The beach there is great, and it has a nice walkable downtown with shops and good dining. I like Brad's (seafood and tri tip), Mo's for BBQ and Splash Cafe if you like creamy clam chowder.

For a nice dinner with sunset views--go to Steamer's (next to Kon Tiki)--they have a great kid's menu.
