San Juan Islands
Hi - I need help with my San Juans planning..
I am planning 3 nights, in August with my Mom. We want to kayak, whale watch, hike, bike, and relax - we are planning on staying on Orcas Island. Is this the best island to stay on for the above activities? I know this is a busy time to go to the islands, but we wanted to avoid "hoards" of tourists. We are going during the week. Also, I can't decide where to stay??? Kangaroo House? Kingfish Inn? Any suggestions? We would like a peaceful, small inn - comfortable - a balcony or view would be nice. We are willing to pay upto $250/nt. Thanks for any help or advice you can provide. There is really UPDATED info on where to stay in the San Juans, specifically on Orcas. Jessica |
topping my message.......
need help with Orcas Island lodging..... |
I picked my lodging - Inn at Ship Bay on Orcas Island for 3 nights.
Curious - can someone give me "tips" on the car ferrying situation from Anacortes. We will be ferrying over to Orcas on Tuesday, August 9 and ferrying back on Friday, August 12. Can anyone give me a guess on the wait times for ferrying cars during this time? We are coming from Seattle, so I am guessing we will definitely need a car to get around? I really appreciate any advice or help. Thanks! :D Jessica |

This web site will give you a lot of information about the Anacortes/San Juan Ferries. http://www.wsdot.wa.gov/ferries/sche...direction=west However, I doubt they will have the August schedules at this time. |
The web site posted will be of great help...
However,August is THE busiest month..See if you can make a reservation??? Good luck... |
The WS Ferry only accept reservations to and from Sidney, BC UNFORTUNATELY!

If you go to the WS Ferry website, they have there summer scheduled posted and they say Tuesday is suppose to be a good day, however, Friday is suppose to be much busier but you are traveling back on a Friday when most people are traveling to the islands and are going in the opposite direction, so maybe you will get lucky and go against the crowds. I was told to arrive at least one hour in advance of the departure time you plan to take. We are going to Orcas as well this summer and was advised to DEFINITELY bring the car because everything on that island is very spread out and even though they have shuttles, it's much more convenient to have your own transportation to get around. BY THE WAY... I have heard excellent things about Inn at Ship Bay. If you go to www.tripadvisor.com you can read some reviews on it. Most are positive. Have fun and good luck! |
