San Juan Islands
We will be visiting Seattle the end of October and would like to spend a night or 2
in the San Juan islands. We'd like a nice B&B with beautiful surroundings. We don't have a car so we would like a place that is easy to get to. i've thought of being near Friday harbor but we'd welcome any ideas that any of you might have.. Please let me know.

you might want to reconsider not having a car for your trip. especially in the off season you may find it hard to get around to do/see the things you want to without one--but check to see if the shuttle will still be running and if so how often.
if you do stay in town, friday harbor house is probably the nicest place but it's an inn rather than a b&b.

Friday Harbor House is a short walk from the ferry terminal and there is public transportation to take you around San Juan Island: http://www.sanjuantransit.com/
For these and other reasons, SJI is our favorite island.
Have you investigated any of these B&Bs? http://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotels-g6...on-Hotels.html

i was curious about late fall shuttle service so looked on the san juan transit site and on the schedule page it says the last day of service was sept 19 and they will resume in may 2011.
given that, i would definitely rent a car. for me, one of the best things about going to the islands is driving the back roads off the beaten path and seeing what there is to discover. i think you'd be missing out without a car.
