Can anyone tell me if there is anything interesting within walking distance of the Sainte Claire?
Any decent restaurants?
Oh, also... how much should a cab run from SJC to The Sainte Claire?
Are there decent shuttle services that run less?
I arrive Monday around 1pm.

Sorry couldn't resist. I googled Sainte Claire and pulled up "attractions" in the area, and this is what Google presented me with :))

Anything good. I am on an expense account :)

I think cab fare will run you about $20. I live about 5 miles south of downtown and for us, cab fare is around $30 from the airport.

Less expensive option - the lightrail runs right in front of your hotel. There is a shuttle from the airport (free) to the lightrail station - trip takes about 5 minutes once you wind your way out of the airport - then the one way trip on the lightrail into downtown is a couple dollars.

For restaurants - there are a bunch within walking distance. You are right in the middle of downtown.

In the hotel itself is Il Fornaio, which is good.

Original Joe's is next door - this is an Italian restaurant that has been around for ages. I went once and was not impressed, but a lot of people really like it.

Bella Mia would be my pick for Italian food downtown - it is 3-4 blocks from your hotel.

AP Stumps is nice - upscale American, also 3-4 blocks away.

If you are interested in beer, the Tied House and Gordon Biersch are both there. Britannia Arms is good if a pub is what you want.

McCormick and Schmicks openned a couple years ago - a block from your hotel. I haven't been, but friends say it is good.

House of Siam has good Thai food.

Caper's Loft is a restaurant bar with good food - they have live jazz some nights.

Ok - so that is my brain storm for now. I am sure others will have other recommendations :)

I have the worst luck with cabs taking me the long way and when I have the time, I like light rail and metro!

Agree with everything J Correa posted and would add that my favorites for cheap American food are the Sonoma Chicken Coop and Brittania Arms (we eat at one or the other before every Sharks game we attend).

dm - yeah, us too - before every Sharks game. Tomorrow it will be The Brit.

There's the San Jose Rep, Opera, etc. with their theatres all downtown. There's the Children's Discovery Museum, the Tech Museum (which youshould visit, because you're going to be int he heart of hi tech country), and a bunch of other museums all DT as well.

I'd also add Santana Row when you have a chance to get out of the downtown area.

Paolo's is a higher end place, about 2 blocks away on San Carlos.

It's a fine place if you are alone, and even better if you are with a group to share soups and main dishes family style.

I would not bother with the light rail from the airport - by the time you get ON the shuttle a cab will have you at the hotel it's that close.

I wish I had time to visit. This is an in/out business trip.
I arrive Monday afternoon and have to get all the training materials printed and ready to go. I'll run for dinner early and get to bed early. Work ALL day Tuesday and we will go somewhere for dinner (not my choice). Then back to DFW on the earliest possible flight! I am scheduled for 10am but will try to get confirmed for the 730!
