San Francisco/New Years Eve with kids
Hi everyone.
Iīve posted twice this subject with very few or no replies at all. Perhaps this is because itīs too early but for my family and me is very important to plan ahead this day since in our country is always a big deal so we are used to.
Iīve contacted our hotel in SF where we will be staying from December 29th until January 3rd and they said nothing special for this evening will take place within its facilities.
Iīve booked in Mcormick and kuletoīs at Girardelli Square (sorry for mispellings and thypos)but I really donīt know is this is the right choice.
Which place do you suggest for spending new years eve for a family with a 10 years old daughter and both in early 40 in San Francisco?
We would like to have dinner and to see fireworks from the place or there is different options to this?
Thanks in advance for all your help.

Well it's a mob particularly around the Embarcadero where the best viewing will be EXCEPT it may be foggy & you will see little. I admit to being a old Fart but I'd rather share a jail cell with Mike Tyson than go to the city on NY's Eve. LOL!

I'm not aware of fireworks in SF Bay..but there may be, I live North of SF..but there may also be a lot of fog too. The problem with any restaurants with view's is that you may have a problem bringing in a child. I"d check the top of the Hyatt Hotel at the Embarcadero, or the Fairmont Hotel both of which have restaurants at the top with views. That might be a more warm and comfortable place to view the bay, if its "viewable". I think our New Year's Eve celebrations might be tame compared to the rest of the world. Good luck, and enjoy SF when you arrive.

Maybe someone else will have some ideas for you - but I honestly cannot think of a restaurant that would have a special NYE event that would allow a child - let alone a place w/ a view. In Dec/Jan you can't depend on a view anyway. In the States unfortunately, New Year's Eve is primarily an adults-only celebration - at least at the commercial venues. For this reason many towns have developed children's or teen events so the kids have somewhere to go while the adults are partying.
If it were me, I'd have a much earlier dinner, then closer to midnight. maybe wrap up really warmly and go out for a bit. taxis will be hard to find

You don't say how old your children are but I would suggest an early dinner somewhere ending up with some hot chocolate ( with a little Baileys added for you!)or hot fudge sundaes... something like that.

Yes he did . . . . ". . . for a family with a 10 years old daughter and both in early 40 . . ." That is why I don't think they'll find an appropriate place. A lot of difference between an 10 yo and a 18 yo. NYE in SF really isn't geared to little kids.
Though, hopefully someone else will come up w/ an idea

Well what about staying at the Mark Hopkins Hotel...having an early dinner like several of you suggested, and then the adults go up to the Top of the Mark for a NYE drink...its got a view and its a beautiful room, and could be great. Esp. since their child could be asleep in their room??

we stayed last year right on the embarcadero so we could stay inside in case weather was bad and see the fireworks from our room with our dog. we did go outside, beautiful weather, but lots of rather drunk young people out- don't know if you'd want your kids out in that and all the restuarants in that area were geared to parties and dinners with alot of alcohol etc. there was family stuff down at justin herman plaza by the hyatt- ice skating etc. that area looked very nice for families. we were disappointed that the ferry building closed early that day
