San Francisco with teens
I am taking my daughter (17) and her boyfriend (17) to San Francisco for her birthday. We live in Fl. I'd like a hotel that will be fun at walking at night but safe. Fishermans Wharf/Union Square/Chinatown area? Which hotel would you stay at? I need either two rooms, or a suite with a seperate room. After researching, I like the Triton and the Tuscan. Any other suggestions. Any nice hotels neer Haight Ashbury? Thanks

The Triton is the much better choice even if you have to pay a little more - it's perfectly safe. Visit, but don't stay in, Haight Ashbury. Other suggestions: don't skip golden gate park, plan to tax and then walk back over the golden gate bridge (toward the city), north beach area has great food at good prices (although places right on Columbus Ave overcharge - look to the side streets instead), don't eat at fisherman's wharf - bad food at riduclously infalted prices (true of most restuarants at heavily touristed sites), get a weekly MUNI pass, see a movie at the Castro theater if it's something you wouldn't mind seeing - fantastic building, bring a warm jacket (even in August), twin peaks has the best view of the city.

As a resident of SF I'd recommend the Tuscan in Fisherman's Wharf over the Triton. Chinatown is dirty and noisy. Fisherman's Wharf has alot going on at night and at least it's a much safer area than Chinatown or Union Square for that matter.
