San Francisco- Which area for homebase for a week?

We are going to San Francisco in August with our two teens. Which area would you recommend the most for our homebase for a week? We would like to stay in a large hotel. Thanks in advance!

Hard to say with so little to go on. SF is not a very big city to start with so there are lots of choices. Taking a stab in the dark, assuming you don't want the priciest in town, I would suggest either the Holiday Inn at Union Square (certainly big and well located) or the Sheraton at Fisherman's Wharf (more touristy, but maybe better with teens). If you wanted to go up in price, I would suggest the St. Francis, Fairmont or the Marriott at Fisherman's Wharf. Hope this helps.

My husband and I just got back from San Francisco on July 9th. We stay in several places all under $95.00 before tax. A reasonable hotel for under $70.00 is Grant Hotel on Bush. Phone number is 1-800-522-0979. This hotel is clean, has big bathrooms, and is in the process of renovation. The Hotel is a block from Chinatown Gateway Arch, cable car stops a half a block from hotel, and close to shops like Macy's, Gap, etc. The location has reasonable restaurants, diners, cafes. A cross the street is Uncle Vito's -pizza and pasta. Very reasonable and excellent chicken fetti. alfredo and pizza. Very popular among the locals. Lori's diner(down the hill and to the right) is a fun place to eat breakfast.
Alot to see and do in Union Square area.

Another place you can look into is Edward II Inn at 3155 Scott St. The price range from $80.00 and up. They serve a lovely continental breakfast downstairs and the location is close to the Exploritium, restaurants and shops. Do keep in mind you share a common bathroom.
