San Francisco-weekend

Hi again everyone,

I'm travelling to San Francisco for the weekend of October 13-16, 2006. I was hoping to get an recommedation of a nice hotel at a not so San Francisco price.

We always enjoyed the Intercontinental Mark Hopkins on Nob Hill. Lowest rate is $259.

You should be able to book a room at the Harbor Court for under $200. That is a great hotel very convenient to the Ferry Building which has a wonderful farmer's market on the weekends.

There are plenty of cheaper alternatives, too. What price range do you want? What kind of amenities?

You should be able to get a good price at the Chancellor. It is right on Union Square, has a nice breakfast, and the staff is very courteous and helpful.

Thanks everyone for the great advise on accomadations...
My wife is wanting to take in a wine tour or wine tasting trip to either napa or sonoma. I'm staying down on the embarcadaro and didn't plan on renting a car. Can anyone suggestor has anyone had a great experiece arranging wine tours from S/F north to wine country.

i went to SF last year....
we had a rental car, but none of us wanted to drive on a day we planned to drink wine all day.
i looked into some organized tours, but they usually put you in a larger group and go to certain wineries.
we ended up getting a limo. turned out to be a great idea. we were able to go to the wineries we wanted, and stopped at one of the great markets as we entered napa and had our "picnic" inside the limo as we worked our way thru traffic to the northern end to start at Sterling.
i realize that might not be in the budget, but consider it as it might end up being only nominally more expensive than a private tour. plus, it's an unforgettable experience.
