San Francisco Trip Report
In April, my husband, Gene and I took a trip down California's Highway 1. We started with 36 hours in San Francisco and packed as much as we could into that short span.
We climbed Telegraph Hill, traipsed up and down Columbus Avenue, shopped at City Lights Bookstore and hung out on Haight Street. Read my account of that lightning trip to San Francisco: http://www.moonfun.net/California_Fi...l_Journal.html |
I enjoyed your trip report.
Next time, try Spec's (Spec's Twelve Adler Museum Café), a bar across the street from City Lights. http://brokeassstuart.com/2009/01/24...ch-is-amazing/ (I couldn't find a good website, so this one has a picture.) Also, I'm surprised at the recommendation for Maya, but I think when people think about great Mexican food they're thinking about those enormous and tasty burritos in the Mission. My friend sent a picture taken yesterday of at least 13 parrots of the Telegraph Hill fame. They were in a green tree with orange blossoms, and were perfectly camouflaged. I enjoyed your description of Haight Ashbury, too. |
Kailani,
Thank you for your response. Your comments mean to me that I simply have to go back! Kate |
I really liked your trip report and pictures. Makes me want to go back soon also.
Suggestion: next time buy a muni pass (you can get one for one day). It is fun to walk around San Francisco, but sometimes in the middle of a hill it is great to just hop on a bus or cable car. Eat breakfast at Mama's (Washington Square) and take a bus to the Coit Tower. Walk down one or both of the stairways. We were lucky to see the parrots in the back of Coit Tower. They were in the trees right in front of us and were doing the same things they did in the DVD we saw of the book you mentioned. |
Maj,
Great suggestions, thank you. Did everyone see the parrots except us?! Kate |
I was looking all over for the parrots when at coit tower. I didn't see them until the next day when I was at the top of Lombard St. after climbing up the street, I was standing looking down and to my left was a huge tree with at least 15 of them in there. the tree was set back about on the side street directly to my left and it was next to a house. I heard them making noise the whole time I was climbing up and had no idea what was making the noise!
