San Francisco transportation

What is the cheapest or best way to get from the SF Airport to Union Square (Staying at the St Francis). Is there a bus or should I take a cab? How long does it take..I will be arriving on a Sunday afternoon.

i think BART gets you close for cheap

Tom,

Take the BART shuttle from SFO where you can catch BART at the Colma station. The closest stop to the Westin St. Francis would be Powell.

If there are two of you or much luggage, I would suggest a taxi. You can get current rates at the SFO/ground transportation site and on a Sunday there shouldn't be much traffic.

I would take the BART. A cab from SFO to Union Square costs about $80 (and that was 5 years ago!!)

Sorry Linda... you got ripped for about double the going rate... $40 will get you there in an "honest" ride.

I would probably take BART too but if you do have a lot of luggage, I have taken Super Shuttle. I think it was about $18. So, cheaper than a cab but more expensive than BART. It was fast and easy.

For up to date, accurate information about all transit schedules and fares go to www.transitinfo.org
A taxi will cost about $35-40. BART is quite easy to use and just a couple of dollars. On a Sunday, figure about 1/2 hour for a cab ride. Which one to use depends on how much luggage you have, and convenience versus cost.

The cheapest is SamTrans bus. They run every 30 minutes on weekends and much more often on weekdays. SamTrans express will not let you in with luggage, a regular bus will. Not sure how early/late they run, check the website for schedules/maps. The bus stops in the city are on Mission street - 1 block father then BART.

BART - shuttle and train is another option.

Shuttle and taxi will take you directly to your hotel, it would be the best way. For one person a shuttle is cheaper.

Many hotels have free shuttles from SFO.
Just came back yesterday from SF.
Taxi ride from SFO to U square was $ 36
with tip at 6:30 pm with some traffic.
Depending how many are in your party, I would take a cab. Enjoy!
