I just took this trip from sac to portland in a honda civic, enjoyable drive. Suggestions for places to stop, hedge creek in dunsmuir, the beginning of the Sacramento River in mt Shasta, McDowell creek falls outside of labanon or and spend a day in the Columbia river gorge. There is vista house and about 5 waterfalls just off the old highway with short hikes to get even closer. I enjoy my photography and had a blast they also have a beautiful old fish hatchery by the dam east on 84. I enjoyed the rose garden in the rain also. Just a couple of suggestions I made the trip in one day and made lots of little stops. Oh also there is an exit in weed ca, I believe it's the first or second exit the street dead ends and there is a bunch of gas stations and fast food you get a very nice view of my Shasta.

Creativepeeps ... don't know if you're still checking this thread, but...
weather report for I-5 from the bay area through to Seattle show mild temperatures and either sun, showers, or rain the entire route throughout early Nov.
As of today Oct 31 there is serious rain happening in the Washington Cascades, with flood watches and warnings posted, but its unlikely to affect I-5 at all. Seattle is likely to be rainy when you're here.
And for others in the future: I-5 in the Siskiyou's can get snow but usually later, in Dec, Jan, & Feb., but even in mid winter you can get through with absolutely no snow on the road many (most) days ... but there are the occasional snowstorms and the snow lingering in their aftermath.
The ideas above about potential routes, times, and places to stop are very good choices.
