San Francisco to Muir Woods

I will be staying in SF in October and I will like to go to Muir Woods. I wll not have a car, what are the alternatives ways of transportation to get there?
Thank you!

You can find a tour that includes Muir Woods. Plenty of them to pick from.

Through late October, there is a shuttle, but perhaps only on the weekends?

Or you could take a Golden Gate Transit bus to Marin City and from there, catch the West Marin Stagecoach South Route (61) to Pantoll Ranger Station, then hike down into the woods.

For any park administered by the National Parks Service, go to the park's URL at www.nps.gov, click on the link for "Directions," and there you'll get info on how to get to that place either by car or by mass transit -- even if the answer is "There is no mass transit to this park." Here's the page for Muir Woods
http://www.nps.gov/muwo/planyourvisit/directions.htm
which includes the link noted above.

As Car Free said, weekends only. You can catch the GG transit buses along Mission Street or along Van Ness to Marin City, change to shuttle to Muir Woods. Easy, safe.

The shuttle stops at the entrance to Muir Woods.

Or a tour bus.

One of the HoHo bus routes from Fishermans Wharf goes to Sausalito with a connection to Muir Woods, but you have to make sure you get an early one as the last connecting bus at Sausalito leaves at 3pm. If you get Betsy as your driver all the better she is a real character.

The shuttle is well worth the money. I wouldn't want to drive that narrow twisty road myself. The shuttle takes you directly to the gate. If you park you may end up a mile away.

This was five years ago but we just took a tour that went to Muir Woods and Sausalito. It left from Fishermans wharf. We loved it, especially liked Sausalito too reminded us a bit of Nelson where we live.
