Jean, and crellston, ANY city in the County can pass stricter rules. In addition to the CITY (not County) of Los Angeles, West Hollywood, another independent city (not to be confused with Hollywood) requires vax proof for restaurants and other indoor venues. The County order is a baseline only.

Yes, with 88 independent cities, it is confusing. Practices will also differ at all of your stops along the way.

I don't know if the QR codes that one has from another country would work here. It would be a pain to have to carry the physical card.

Adding to that, it's not clear who if anyone will actually enforce anything in this area. There has been very little enforcement here all along, although we are all pretty good about wearing masks in supermarkets. I've never really understood the "mask theater" that happens in restaurants, where you wear one to enter and then take it off during the 90 minutes or whatever that you are actually eating. I am fortunate to be live near a good Thai restaurant with "drive through" and have not had a sit down meal inside California since it all started. Many restaurants do have outdoor patios, fortunately.

Good point JanisJ. For once in my life I may break the habit of a lifetime of travel and could be tempted to arrive at the airport at the last possible minute! Will stick with whatever regs are in force at the time but there already seems to be some relaxation of mask wearing on some European flights (ok , just Scandinavia at present) . Some friends came back from teh an arctic trip last week and masks apparently were not required in airports or on internal flights within Norway. Hopefully we will see some relaxation. Fortunately we are less than an hour from LHR and were planning on a taxi, or maybe underground but, thinking about it, may just drive and park up there and have an extra hour of non mask wearing.

"the only mask respites when actively eating/drinking " May have to savour every mouthful of that delicious airline food VERY slowly

Yesterday I booked flights to Sydney for September. At 25 hours, I REALLY hope restrictions are eased by then

mlgb, No, I have never understood the "mask theatre" in restaurants either. In fact I remain unconvinced re the actual effectiveness or mask in stops transmission. I read a pare by a renowned physicist a few months ago arguing that it was all about physics rather than medicine and that the "normal" paper or clot masks used by most were next to useless as the holes n them were 500 time greater than the particles they were supposed to stop! He likened it to throwing a handful of ball bearing at some scaffolding. In reality, unless wearing N95 masks, I think it 8s more of a comfort blanket than anything else. BUT those are the rules so I stick with them wherever I go. JanisJ - masks are compulsory on the LU so the majority do comply so yous should be ok (though there are always some idiots that refuse.) I think you will be pleasantly surprised by how uncrowded the tubes are still.

FIL tested positive on vacation in Portugal this week! Double jabbed and boosted, fortunately he seems to be ok, He and MIL are confined to the room for the next ten days .

Jean , thanks for the pointer re visors, I wasn’t aware. I have just discovered a mask that I find reasonably comfortable. It is stiffer than those blue/white paper one so makes it easier to breath. May have to bu6 a few more of those.

Some of us more vulnerable ones use the N95s or the Korean/Chinese version in high risk situations, or a double mask of cloth over one of those surgical ones.

In addition to the face shields, a Buff usually doesn't cut it.

You will see a lot of "chin masks" and peeping noses.

If you never saw this, it's a hoot

Hey Crellston - Been a little pre-occupied with Dia de Muertos tour, but really looking forward to our tour. MLGB if you are around, you are welcome also!

Dia de los Muertos. I noticed that LA has decided to omit the "los" and it sounds stupid without it, and makes no sense.

"I noticed that LA has decided to omit the "los""

Where? Every event I've seen highlighted in L.A. is described as "Día de los Muertos," such as this from one of our local TV stations ...

Here are some Día de los Muertos events happening in L.A.

Both forms are and have been used. In the Entertainment and Food sections of the LA Times, it is Dia de Los Muertos. I know my friends who are abogados in East LA, call it Dia de Los Muertos. As does the Washington Post and the New York Times.

So no, not "LA". And not "everywhere". LOL.

WAPO had a photo essay on this year's fiesta in Mexico City, including some of the history with reference to James Bond. I was surprised to read in that article that Mexico City is 95% fully vaccinated. I hope that is true.
