My Husband, myself and 7 year old daughter plan to do this trip in June 2018. Needed to know where call to take a break in. Also is it too cold in San Francisco for a child. Does it rain In June. Pls help

Average daytime temps in San Francisco in June will be in the mid-to high 60"s F. (highest ever recorded in June was 76 F. You'll have to decide whether or not that is "too cold" for your child.

Not much rain during June - Average number of "rain days" is something like 3 days/month in June with a total rainfall of less than 1/2 inch for the month.

It's about a 5 1/2 hour drive between LA and SF - mid-point is somewhere between Visalia and Fresno - so that area might be a good stopping point.

Driving via Visalia/Fresno would take 8 hours or more. RoamsAround may be thinking of the main north/south highway (Interstate 5) which is the fastest way, but it doesn't go through Visalia/Fresno and would still take more than 6 hours. It's a boring drive, the highway is filled with trucks/lorries, and there would be no reason to stop other than for food or comfort.

Most tourists want to drive the coastal road (Highway 1) which would take upwards of 11 hours. There is currently a detour between approximately Lucia and Cambria due to a huge landslide and no estimate for when this detour will be lifted. There are many attractive places to stop along this route (and some a bit inland), either to see sights or spend the night. If you wanted to see Hearst Castle and/or the elephant seal rookery at Piedras Blancas, you would have to add more time for an additional detour.

How many days do you have?

If going inland--it's not sure that CA1 will be open by that time--take U.S.101 and stop in Paso Robles if the 5.5 hour drive is too much.

On another thread, Meenal has questions about going to Yosemite which is why RoamsAround mentioned the route via Visalia and Fresno. I wish posters would put all the information in one thread. It's two entirely different questions!

We ned major clarification from the OP before anyone can give useful advice (except for the weather bits)

They want they want to visit San Francisco, Yosemite, perhaps the coast, and Los angeles.

That is a LOT.

Meenal: Please post the details of your itinerary on one or the other thread (or both) - like how long you have all together? Are you flying in to San Francisco and out of LAX or is this part of a larger trip?

Anything you can tell us so we can be more helpful.

I agree, how long they have is important.

They could do 3 nights SF, 3 nights LA and 3 nights driving a combo of Highway 1 and 101 since Highway 1 will not be open all the way until late summer or early fall due to the mudslide with 2 nights Monterey (so they can drive partway into Big Sur) and 1 night Santa Barbara (or maybe Pismo Beach or Morro Bay).
That leaves one spare night to add to SF or LA.

If they want to see Yosemite, another 3-4 days are needed since it is 4 hours SF to Yosemite and 4 hours or more Yosemite to Monterey.
