San Francisco to Healdsburg- Need Wineries!
Does anyone know of a winery we should not miss on the way to Healdsburg from SF? I'm looking for something small, not well known, with lots of character. Also, if you have a suggestion of a driver that will follow an itinerary of your choosing around Healdsburg that would be great. Thanks!

My husband will be glad to drive you if you'll fly him out there. Here's some small, fun ones:
Roshambo- young, hip place http://www.roshambowinery.com/index.htm Topolos- they make "Stu Pedasso" Wine here, lol, are fun and friendly and really has a lot of character! Imagery- for the neat art work Papapietro Perry- no character, just a sales room, but the best Pinot I've ever had right across the parking lot, visit fun Rick at Amphora Foppiano- in old railroad car, Grateful Dead music, great Petite Syrah Wilson- her wines won gold and double gold in SF this year. Dutcher Crossing- north of Healdsburg, but new and pretty and interesting, IMO Limerick Lane- old vines, wine bottle shaped pool, good wines Good for you for wanting to visit something besides the tourist stops. If you see a tour bus, move on. Look up the websites of the ones I mentioned and make a map. Also, in Healdsburg there are many tasting rooms. My favorite is Rosenblum. Great wines, it's usually hopping in there and hard to believe that there's no tasting fee for the excellent selection they pour. Enjoy! |
LLinda-
I have a new one for you near my house Awesome, I mean awesome Cab, Cab Franc & Pinot Noir: Keller Estate-appt. a must. Put it on your list for your next visit and I'll meet you ! R5 |
Thanks so much for your help! What is this new one near your house?
Thanks! |
Hi lisabobbi
Keller Estate isn't brand new-it's just not quite on the radar. As you drive north on Hwy 101 look for the exit to Napa/Sonoma/Hwy 37 East. Take Hwy 37 to the 1st stop light, this will be Lakeville Hwy, turn left and follow along until you reach Keller Estate 5875 Lakeville Hwy. Petaluma, CA 94954. You can get a good enough map on mapquest. Also, be aware that Hwy 101 gets very crowded after 3:30-4:00PM weekdays with commute traffic, and there is some road construction as you travel through Santa Rosa, north of Hwy 12-just avoid the area 4-6PM and you should be fine. Do pick up a good map of the county that shows winery locations-Compass Maps makes a good one. What time of year will you be here ? R5 |
thanks for the info, razzle. We are returning next year as we have promised to meet Rick's partner and wife there for a few days, sigh. Besides, we are slightly under 350 bottles in the cellar now, it's going to be empty by Apeil. ;-)
