San Francisco Short Term Rental Help Needed
This is not exactly a travel questions, although it will involve travel to San Francisco.
A special friend of mine will be going there perhaps as early as next week for some medical treatment. She will need a furnished rental for about two months. She tells me that the hospital has provided a list of possibilities. I just wondered if any Fodorites might have some suggestions as well. The stress of her illness and the strain of the treatment are so overwhelming. I just thought that if she could be comfortably settled, it would be one less thing to worry about. |
look at some of the rentals at vrbo.com. They might have something that would fit. Good luck.

Perhaps we could be of more help if you tell us where or at what facility her treatment will be and what options are on the list.
I am thinking a Residence Inn or one of the hotel chains with kitchenettes but the cost could be staggering. Is price an issue she also needs help with? My concern would be she ends up in an area that is not so safe which would only add to her stress at this difficult time. |
I do think we can help if you tell us what's on the "suggested" list. At least we can cross things off if they're in not-so-great neighborhoods, too far from the treatment facility (or too difficult to get to), etc. For example, if she were going to UCSF, that is in a residential neighborhood nowhere near downtown. On the other hand, if she were going to St. Francis, closer to downtown. Etc.

Treatment will be in the USF area. I will check on the list and post here. Thanks for your offers to help!

Check for short term rentals on sfbay.craigslist.org as well. Good luck!

I had a similar need last year while being treated at MD Anderson in Houston.
The list the hospital had was very useful; rather than trying to reinvent the wheel. Also, transportation and convenience to the hospital should be a prime consideration. Anderson had a wonderful staff for helping out of towners with all these kinds of needs. They deal with patients with similar needs. Let them be your friends "go to" liason and cut down on stress of trying to find a rental that may or maynot be close, safe, etc. Deb |
I would trust the hospital/treatment center list.

Thanks, Everyone. One of the places on the hospital list was the Pacific Heights Inn on Union Street. Services, etc. looked okay on the website, although there are no photos of the exterior, which I found to be very unusual. Is this a very old motel/area?
|
Not clear on hospital, did you really mean USF or did you mean UCSF as UCSF is the big medical center. Anyway whichever you meant Union Street is not close as in not walking distance to either area. She will have to drive, take a cab or public transportation to and from. The only hotels that I know within walking distance of UCSF are the Stanyan Park and the Carl Hotel, although I believe there are a number of B&B/guest houses in the area.
The Laurel Inn might work as it is near (l block) a bus line that goes directly to UCSF (and is near USF). It is in a very nice non-tourist area of SF. |
Just remembered there is a nice B&B --the Belvedere House nearby. Also UCSF has an administrative building near the Laurel Inn so it has a shuttle to the main campus.

Leburta,
If you haven't already, look at the reviews on TripAdvisor: http://tinyurl.com/22v5vq But alas, none of the reviewers posted any new pictures. |
