Please help!!

Need suggestions for dining and nightlife for an upcoming trip to San Francisco.

Will be there the end of May for 4 nights. Two early 30 couples looking for $$-$$$ great food, good wine and cocktails. Staying around the marina area and will have a car.

Have you been to San Francisco before? What cuisine for dinner and price range?

I've only been for one night. Looking for casual, open for cuisine, new american, thai, italian. Prices around $15-$25 a plate.

There are about 30-40 or so restaurants in the Chestnut, Fillmore, Union St area near the Marina district. We dined at Isa on Steiner this past Saturday (just off Chestnut). Next door is Bisro Aix - also quite good but recently re-opened so don't have any recent first-hand info on it. We like Betelnut on Union - outside tables avail and good Asin food. On Sat night the entire Chestnut St area was mobbed with people your age dining outside, at new "hot" spots, old favorites, etc. Just go there, wander around, and see where the "locals" are dining. A16 is quite famous/popular but I'm not a big fan of most "common" Italian food and the menu there never really pursuaded me to give it a try.

For authentic homestyle italian, skip the scene at A16 (where the food is just okay) and head directly to Parma on Steiner St. btwn Lombard and Chestnut. It's a small restaurant - and doesn't take reservations - but it's well worth whatever time you have to wait. If the wait is long, head around the corner for a glass of wine at The California Wine Merchant to get your evening started. Enjoy!
