San Francisco rental car question

Hi all,
We'll be spending a few days in late July in Napa/Sonoma, flying in and out of OAK. We plan to spend our final night in San Francisco. Would it make more sense to turn in the rental car in the city rather than driving ourselves to OAK? Does anyone know around how much a taxi from the Four Seasons to OAK would be? I'm thinking the additional day of rental plus pricey parking will make that worthwhile, but I'm not sure. Thanks for your help!

I'm not sure how anyone can answer this question specifically as the rates and rules for different car rentals vary greatly. You need to find out the rental costs IF you drop in the city as opposed to dropping at OAK. I know that often it is considerably cheaper to pick up AND drop off a car in the city than at the airport (SFO). But since you're picking up at OAK, maybe it will be even cheaper to return there than in the city. You just need to do some checking. You also say "a few days". Often it's no more expensive to rent a car for six days (or a week) than five, or even for 5 days instead of 4 -- something else to check.

The taxi fare would be roughly $60.00.

We arrive in OAK Wednesday morning, drive to Yountville for 1 night, then we'll spend 2 nights in Sonoma for a wedding. So the per day car costs I'm seeing are around $50, so plus $50ish (?) for SF parking, I think we might come out a bit ahead if we drop it off. Thanks for input!

Part of my possibly vague post was -- are those per day rates what it will be if you drop it off in the city, or what it will be if you drop it off at OAK -- or is there a difference? I'm not talking about an actual drop off charge (which there probably won't be) but rather a difference in the per day rate based on where you're going to return the car.

That's a good question! I need to call and see, because the websites I was looking do assume I was returning to the airport.
