San Francisco - Recommended Short Trip Itinerary
I'll be in San Francisco later this year. However, I'll only be in town for a couple of days. What are a couple of must do things, if I want to say that I have been to San Francisco?

Read at least some of StuDudley's things to do in San Francisco. Ride a cable car, visit Golden Gate Park, Golden Gate Bridge, the Embarcadero, Coit Tower and maybe a boat to Alcatraz. You should not need a rental car. There is good transportation from SFO into the city.

A fun, interesting and informative place to visit is The Walt Disney Family Museum at the Presidio. Quoting myself, "With an array of interactive exhibits, films, posters and listening stations, the museum took us on a journey through the life of Walt Disney…and what an incredible life it was." Well worth a stop.

1) take them to see the WPA murals inside Coit Tower and then ramble down the historic Filbert steps, and 2) ride a cable car at least once! Stu, I do disagree with you a bit about Grant in Chinatown. I agree with you that there are plenty of tacky shops, but if it's someone's first time to SF I think it's fun to cruise down Grant and even stop in Li Po for a cocktail (just not the Li Po Mai Tai!). There are several tea shops that are nice, too. I stay near Chinatown every October- my overseas high school friends & I march with our alumni group in the Double Ten/National Day Parade; we all lived in Taiwan and/or HK and other parts of Asia- and we always have a lot of fun checking out Grant Ave. Admittedly we don't eat on Grant! |
I've always found more Asians shopping & doing their daily activities on Stockton St than on Grant.

If only a couple of days, take a city tour, or a full circle on HOHO bus, and you will see where you want to come back to explore more.

Beach Blanket Babylon is the longest running musical show in history. There is singing, dancing, outrageous hats, and they poke fun at current events.
