San Francisco-playing tour guide
In June,an international congress of scientists will take place in SF.My girlfriend and I wanted to do something fun with the wives(and a few husbands)that will come along on this trip. We have no experience in organizing events and the travel agency engaged for that has taken care of some of the outings...we want to keep it simple(no van rentals, etc)so our choice are to meet at the warf and go to Angels Island and Alcatraz. any other ideas

For a nominal donation, San Francisco City Guides will conduct/lead a walking tour just for your group alone - at your choice of date & time. You can choose which specific walking tour(s) you would like, from the 35 or so different walks that they offer. City Guides is an off-shoot of the SF Public Library - it is not a "for profit" organization - all the guides are volunteers. They do lots & lots of customized walks for convention attendees, like you. My wife is one of the guides for the two different Victorian House tours that City Guides offers.
See www.sfcityguides.org for more info Also, here is something I posted recently: http://www.fodors.com/forums/threads...1&tid=35129049 Stu Dudley |
I second and third the SF City Guides Tours. Went on 2 recently and they were excellent. I can't wait to get back to SF and go on more of these tours. They are led by volunteers that clearly were knowledgeable and loved what they were doing; their enthusiasm was the sunshine on what would have otherwise just been a rainy SF day.
We did the "Victorian Homes" and "City Scapes and Public Places" tours, we also went on a free tour of City Hall - another must see. Deb |

I'd vote for a walk through Chinatown, too.

I agree w/ all the above. Doing it on your own (since you aren't experienced) will seem awfully much like herding cats. Turn it over to a "pro" who knows how to handle a group, and how to pace things appropriately. Leading a tour takes a certain amount of experience - and especially since these folks presumably are from all over the world.
City Guides will take over the "stress" and let you enjoy the tour as much as the others . . . . . |

THANK YOU THANK YOU...I'll be here all week!
It was a pretty good GTG especially when LoveItaly got tanked and put the lampshade on her head and started doing the hoochie coo. ((A)) |
