San Francisco, places to stay
Hi, we will be flying to SF in late July with our 8 year old grandson and his parents. He wants to see his favorite bridge! We will have 5 days, including a weekend, to explore.
We would also like to drive to Oregon for one night to log in another state for him. Where should we stay in SF? We are looking for a kid friendly place with breakfast included. Where should we stay in Oregon? Also, any ideas of activities, etc. will be appreciated! Thanks, TXJL |
Oops!!
I tagged that Oregon... I meant to tag it Calif.... |
Why would anyone make that drive to Oregon for one day?
How long do you plan to stay in Oregon? What is your nightly accomodation budget? |
If you drive up the coast from SF to the border with Oregon that is in the neighborhood of 6-7 hours. If you drive east a little then up I 5 to the Oregon border you are still looking at 6 hours.
Nevada is closer at about 4 hours to south lake tahoe or reno. |
Hmmm, I guess I need to look at a map! Maybe I need to rethink this!
We would like something $250 or less a night, if possible. We will get two rooms. Thanks, |
Yeah, you don't want to drive from San Francisco to Oregon just to "log" another state. Cuz once you see the southern Oregon coast, you won't want to return to San Francisco.

With an 8 year old, it might make sense to look at motels near the zoo which is close to the ocean. The L Taraval streetcar's end terminal is right there. Parking is easy.
|
But the weather by the zoo is the worst in the city. If it's cold and foggy anywhere, it's colder and foggier there!
|
For visitors staying in SF just a few days, the cold and fog might not be such a problem. Besides, most of the time would be spent elsewhere, and there's the surprise of experiencing SF's micro-climates by just taking the L to the other side of town--would an 8 year old enjoy the street car ride? We've had friends stay at the motel off the Great Highway close to the end of the N-Judah line and they had no complaints.

Hi, for the San Francisco accommodations try http://www.localgetaways.com. They have awesome hotel deals and lots of great kid stuff. http://www.localgetaways.com/my-kind...y-fun-getaways. I don't think I would drive to Oregon for a day, it's really far.

We had a great vacation in San Francisco! We stayed at Cow Hollow and loved it! Our room had a view of the Golden Gate...when the fog lifted~! There were so many good restaurants around. The one connected to the hotel was best for breakfast. Good prices and great food! Chestnut Street was fun, too.
It was so easy to catch the bus, too. We had a rent car but we also bought a City Pass at the Exploratorium (Great place!) with a credit card. You had to have cash if you wanted to get it downtown. |
Why would you need cash with the city pass? Isn't transport included?
Or you mean you would need cash if you didn't have the city pass? |
In order to purchase the City Pass at the stand downtown, they wanted you to pay for the Pass in cash. We were buying 5 passes. That would have made a huge dent in our cash!
But you are right, once we bought the pass we were good to go! |
