san francisco or oakland
Going to San Francisco in August. Am I better off flying into San Francisco or Oakland? Thanks
|
assuming the collapsed freeway in Oakland is repaired by then (which it probably will be) - use the airport that gets you the best fare/connections . . . . .
|
Warning - if you use the airport that gets you the best fare/connections and it's not SFO, don't forget to factor in commute traffic if you're traveling during commute hours.
|
The collapsed freeway doesn't affect the traffic from OAK into SF (I drove it before daybreak today), it's the opposite direction that is slowed down. You can always take the Airbus and connect to BART to SF.
|
Commute traffic would be bad from both - and BART serves both (w/ a short bus connection from OAK)

Don't take BART if you have more than one suitcase. You don't want to schlep bags onto the train. If it's during commute times, you'll have an even more difficult time.
|
If you're taking BART (underground) into SF - doesn't matter which airport.
If shuttle, from SFO approx. $15, from OAK approx. $35 |
I use BART all the time, and even local buses, from either airport. If you normally use public transportation you won't have a problem.

The latest info is that the I880 southbound will be repaired within a week to ten days. HOORAY!
This is the route for getting from SF to Oakland Airport. jansa19: you should be OK by August for getting to and from SF and the Oakland Airport. If you are planning on going further east, the I580 will not be repaired for "several months". Thanks to all around the country who gave up their steel so we could get the collapsed freeway fixed quickly. It is costing an estimated $4-$6 million loss in business per day. |
Do the one whioh gives you the best fare.
