San Francisco North Beach Restaurant?
Looking for recommendations for a restaurant in the North Beach section of San Francisco. Price point $$-$$$, not anything too stuffy, eclectic is fine, fun atmosphere, any type of food. Any recommendations would be appreciated. Thanks.

Hello, laura, here is the website for the Mona Lisa Restaurant in North Beach.
http://www.monalisasf.com/ The Mona Lisa is not stuffy. Do make reservations or you might find yourself standing in a line on the sidewalk. Now the website states they serve authentic Italian food. Their food is good but as almost all Italian restaurants it is tweeked a bit for the American customers taste as the owner admitted to a family member who was born and raised in Rome until he came here about a decade ago. But my family member always enjoys eating there in any case. I do too. Many Fodorites have enjoyed the Mona Lisa and many have returned to the restaurant more than once. So just one thought for your consideration. |
loveitaly - thanks so much for the recommendation. Will check it out.

Consider Firenze By Night. We ate there twice last time in the city and both times the food was outstanding as was the service. Not stuffy and a bit noisy but the owner Sergio is generally on the floor and available for questions and conversation. For other ideas go to the " Yelp " web site and look at North Beach Italian restaurants for ideas/reviews.

We ate at Figaro and liked it alot, tasty food and good prices.[Lobster ravioli with meyer lemon sauce; risotto with beef and veggies]
Also, E' Tutto Qua is very good, we had a Fodors GTG there and everyone liked the food and waiters. http://etuttoqua.com/ |
La Trappe might be what you're looking for - it's a Belgian pub and is a fun scene with a great beer selection.
Albona serves Istrian food and has one of the world's great proprietors. He's lots of fun. There's an old-fashioned family style restaurant called Capp's Corner. You sit at big tables with other people. It's about as un-stuffy as you can get. |
