San Francisco non tourists restaurants
 

Will be in San Francisco early Nov. and am looking for exceptional personally refered eating estabishments.Referal in a North Beach italian location a must, what is the Beach Blanket Babylon show in North Beach, should I go? Is little Joe's worth a visit? Have reservations at Postero's one night. Is it worth going to Sonoma if I only have an afternoon? Recommendations for a lunch location needed there if I go. Want to stay in the southern end of the valley

When I was in San Francisco last October, friends who live there took me to the South Park Cafe--it was very good. (I think you mean that you have a reservation at Postrio?)

A nice North Beach Italian restaurant is Buca Giovanni. It's on Greenwich Street; it's upscale and very authentic.

Definitely go see Beach Blanket Babylon!! I've gone several times to see the exact same show, and each time is worth the trip. Make your reservations early!

Sonoma is worth a day-trip (just an hour away), you can stop at a few wineries for a tasting -- a great restaurant is The General's Daughter.

510 Union Street last week. Non-touristy and
really great!

I can only respond to the Little Joe's inquiry with a resounding yes! We ate there two summers ago and loved it. It's extremely informal and the food is excellent. Shared tables, soda in a can, etc.. Get the house specialty; a garlicky, tomato based seafood stew. Yes, tourists go there but definitely worth a visit.

Two of our best "no tourists here" restaruants --
a) U-Lee - great Chinese but not in Chinatown; at the corner of Hyde & Jackson right where the cable car drops you; best pot stickers in the US!! - also wonderful soups and entrees. Two can eat here for $10-$15 easy. Don't expect fancy digs -- just great food.
b) Cafe Maisonette - 8th & Clement in the Sunset District; gourmet food with a French-Asian flair; tiny, romantic little room; go with someone you love!!

If you'd like to explore south of the city, there's a great Greek restuarant in Palo Alto on Emerson St. The name is Evvia and they have dynamite food. Take 101 south to University Avenue, then west on University into downtown Palo Alto. Emerson crosses University, with the restuarant 3/4 block away on the right.

we just returned from SF and had a great dinner at Grazi 2000 in North Beach. Small, a bit cramped but GREAT FOOD and relatively cheap wine. :-) Don't remember exact location tho.

Ceasers end of North Beach near the Wharf, but far away from the Tourist joints, old world Italian, same location, same food, same ambience, even same waiters, about 90years! great seafood without the expensive price, family oriented with bar
