San Francisco Nightlife

I'll be in san francisco for a few nights in September with my wife and we are looking for ideas to keep us entertained after dinner. Specifically we are looking to visit a different neighborhood each night and sample the nightlife. What are the three or four best neighborhoods for nightlife and where in them would you recommend we go? We'd like to maybe hear a little jazz and hit a couple of romantic/ view type places but mostly want to bar hop- anything from entertaining dives to upscale spots.

Try the Cypress Club in the financial district for music. Upscale place so you don't get the riff raff. Very expensive as well. You can eat dinner there or just sit in the bar area for dessert. You can get half price tickets for current shows at the half price ticket booth. They are re-working Union Square so the booth moved. Not sure where it moved to. Buy the SF Sunday Chronicle when you come to town and check out the pink section.

If it's upscale you want go to Harry Denton's at the top of the Sir Francis Drake Hotel. This very classy nightclub offers an unequalled 3/4 view of San Fran at night. Very romantic with lots of red velvet and leather and people dressed to the nines. Live music, wonderful hors 'de ouerves and great wine/champaign list. Highly recommend it.

Great ideas!! All look good. We are looking for a varied experience. Any more info on which neighborhoods offer the best nighlife opportunities would be greatly appreciated. I envision us stopping at several spots each night in a given neighborhood and would like each stop to afford us a different ambience. As we all know, variety is the spice of life!

thanks
