San Francisco Neighborhood Suggestions for Vacation Rental
A friend and her family will be visiting San Francisco for the first time, for a week. I'd like to get suggestions on neighborhoods where they can find great apartment rental options with easy access to public transportation and places to eat/shop groceries. StuDudley's post was a very helpful SF guide, but couldn't figure out if his neighborhood recommendations would likely have vacation apartments (haven't had the chance to look much at the vacation rental options). Hotel is a possibility for them, but I always like to throw in the apartment or B&B alternative since those are my typical travel accommodations.
Thanks! |
What type of neighborhood would they enjoy (very upscale, urban-gritty, hippie-vibe, yuppie-ish, newly gentrified?)

When? How much per night?
Don't think you are going to find B&B IN the city. We found a great apt rental using airbnb.com |
There are some b&bs in the city. I don't know a thing about them but if you google bed-and-breakfast San Francisco, TripAdvisor should pop up with reviews of 67 bandbs.

Interesting; wouldn't have thought so. Must be more along the lines of a private house with a few rooms to let.

I think they would enjoy a neighborhood nearby good places to have some meals, has easy accessibility to public transit and sightseeing, and it's quiet at night. They are from a countryside area in Northern Europe, so it's hard for me to say exactly what kind of place they would like to try staying in.
Their visit will be in the summer and I imagine their budget is modest, since I was asked whether apartment or hotel is more affordable and comfortable. I already mentioned that I didn't know of any good B&B in the city, so I've been looking around for apartments. I come around to SF for work and play sometimes, however I'm just not sure where they could find good non-hotel accommodations. As an experienced traveler, I've learned to find places (and pay a bit more) that make my visit easier when relying solely on the metro system. I mentioned zip car rental, but not sure how open they are to it. |
There are several guest house?B and B's near UCSF Hospital in the Upper Haight/inner Sunset neighborhoods, near GG Park. Look at "Parnassus Campus"

Ahhhh.... I didn't think to check out UCSF's website. Looks like there are some good options. Thanks!
