San Francisco - moderately priced restaurant for anniversary dinner

Hello San Francisco experts! My husband and I will be in San Francisco on our anniversary, which is August 15th. It is a Monday, and I know a lot of restaurants are closed on Mondays, so that narrows the list somewhat. We would like the dinner to feel "special" to celebrate, but we don't have a big budget to splurge this year. So nice and memorable, but reasonably priced. Any ideas or suggestions? Neither one of us has ever been to San Francisco before.

Thanks!

There are loads of restaurants open on Mondays, too. What constitutes "reasonably priced"? I would go to open table dot com, search for your date, and scroll based on the number of $$. We recently ate at Colibri, which is only two $$ on open table, and the final bill was about $115 for two. (I'm not recommending that restaurant in particular, just giving you the price, so you'll know what you're "up against").

Which reminds me that Open Table is a great place to research menus, prices, and customer reviews: http://www.opentable.com/start.aspx?m=4

agree with sf7307 - there are probably more restaurants open than closed on Mondays.

What cuisine? Do you want soup to nuts or just app/entree/dessert? Drinks? That will all impact price/person.

You really need to give us a price point for us to give you recommendations.

Try the 3 course dinner at Gary Danko. We celebrated my wife's 40th birthday there last year. The service and food were incredible. Their 3 course dinner is $68. They are also open Mondays.
cheers,

We had a decent and what I would call a moderately priced meal at a little bistro called Cafe Claude. Not the greatest French food in the world, but not bad and the atmosphere is nice. The price might be more in line with what you are looking for.

I really enjoy www.belden-place.com It's an 'alleyway' in the financial district with a collection of interesting restaurants. Really nice but not break-the-bank places.

Search some of the prix-fixe special menus that are offered Monday through Thursdays.

Are you staying in the Union Square area and looking for something nearby? I assume you don't want to spring for two cab rides if you're on a limited budget.

I suggest using website/apps for groupon, living social, bloom spot, and scout mob for good deals as this may increase your star rating while keeping budget constraints.

Range in the Mission is nice for an anniversary dinner and is about $75/person-ish.

For more inexpensive, but still anniversary worthy (IMHO), Poesia in the Castro (actually discovered this gem with a groupon coupon). Another option with great food, candle light atmosphere is Slow Club in the Outer Mission.
