San Francisco long weekend... cioppino and Chinatown questions

We are headed to San Fran for a long weekend in June. We don't really have any sites that we are dying to see. We do like to run so if there are scenic paths near the Golden Gate that would be good for that, suggestions are welcome. We are mostly interested in food, wine and the local culture.

My husband dreams of cioppino, so I am looking for suggestions for places to go for that. I had dinner at Tadich Grill a few years ago and someone near me had Cioppino and it looked great.

Recommendations for a restaurant in Chinatown are also welcome. I promised to try out something for lunch...I admit I usually don't care for Chinese food but he loves the spicy stuff! I doubt I have ever had any that was really well made so I am open to lunch in Chinatown, if there are places you recommend please enlighten me.

Here are the top 5 that serve their version of cioppino.

As for Chinatown, Sam Wo is back in business. There are dozens of others.

The patriarch , HenryChung died just recently at 99.. Fascinating story.

Thank you everyone! Stu you are always a fountain of knowledge and suggestions. I am amazed that this thread would have any comment that required removal of a post and in less than 24 hours.

Always looking for more suggestions...

We ALWAYS head to Tadish for Ciopinno, every trip to SF. We go around 5:30 and sit at the counter -- usually with no wait.

I definitely recommend Ciopinno (the restaurant). We stayed very close to China town and never had a bad meal there.

I am so surprised by the Cioppino on the top 5 list! Would have thought it was a tourist trap so good to know it is recommended. The garlic roasted crab on their menu sounds good, as well. We will need to have cioppino more than once so it may be a showdown between Cioppino and Tadich Grill.

If you all want cioppino, then maybe Tadich Grill is a good choice. As debitnm and others here know, I am not a fan of Tadich Grill (despite working around the corner, frankly, I'll never go back). Their regular food is sad - soggy fish, limp overcooked vegetables.

My favorite place for cioppino only serves it in the fall, sorry. For future reference, it's an otherwise unassuming coffee shop on 7th and Folsom called Rocco's. I haven't tried Cioppino's, but I will.

Sorry to the OT for this semi-off-topic post.

newtome, I forget where you live, but we have found an even better place for breakfast. I hesitate to share because there's already always a line on weekends, but it's called Just for You and it's at 22nd and 3rd in Dogpatch. Really excellent breakfasts.

No apologies necessary, breakfast is always of interest. Somehow, having breakfast out (especially when it is great), feels like vacation to me!
