San Francisco Locker

I'm visiting my cousin who lives an hour east of San Francisco - I'm flying into SFO and want to shop for the day before taking BART to his station. Any ideas about where I can find a locker for my suitcase while I'm shopping?? The Caltrain train station is on 700 4th Street but I was hoping to find something closer to the Powell Street BART station (I'll have two pieces).

Hello ValCanada, that is an intersting question. I am positive that the BART stations do not have lockers. The only thing I can think of is if you contacted hotels around Union Square to see if for a fee you could leave your luggage with them but quite frankly I don't think they would be interested..but you might be pleasantly surprised. I can't think of any other idea. Hopefully some other Fodorite will be of more help to you.

You might have to carry a suitcase on wheels or a backpack. I can't think of a place to stow your suitcase unless you rent a car and leave it in the trunk.

Hello ValCanada..I got thinking and thought of the hotel that I stay at in SF which is the Villa Florence. It is just up 2 blocks on Powell from the Powell St., BART station. Just a half a block from Union Square etc.

Anyway I called them and talked to Anna Jones. She said if I call them back and give them your name and the day you will be in SF that you can leave your 2 pieces of luggage with them at no charge. I explained your situation. Of course you will want to tip them but other then that you will not be charged and I can't think of a better location.

Sooooo, if you want to post your name and the day you will be in SF here on this thread I will call the Villa Florence back and give them this information and consequently you will be able to enjoy SF. BTW, here is there website http://www.villaflorence.com/

If you take the BART to the Embarcadero Station the Hyatt will be right in front of you when you step outside. Check out the 20-story-tall lobby area before leaving your luggage with the bellman. He won't care whether you just checked out or not - all he cares about is his gratuity. This leaves you in easy walking distance of all the Union Square shopping choices. Make sure to check out the new Westfield Mall at Fifth and Market.

Thanks, LoveItaly! I love that you took the time to call for me! I will definitely give that a shot - I've now been asked to bring stuff from Canada for my cousin so packing light is not an option - since I've waited to long to get back to you, I'll give Anna a call myself - if you do get this message, I'm Val at [email protected]. Thanks again for your help.

In another SF thread, a poster found there ARE locker at SFO, here is a copy from the SFO website, FAQs section, I never knew it exists!!!!

Where can I store baggage?

Baggage storage is exclusively available at the Airport Travel Agency, located on the Departures/Ticketing Level of the International Terminal, near the security checkpoint for Boarding Area G. The Airport Travel Agency is open daily from 7:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. No reservations are required for baggage storage. All baggage is x-rayed prior to storage.

Rates are assessed per each 24 hour period that an article is in storage (articles in storage for less than 24 hours will be subject to the 24 hour rate), and vary according to the size of the object. Prices range from $3.00 per 24 hours for a purse or camera bag, to $15.00 per 24 hours for a bicycle or surfboard. The fees for regularly sized suitcases range from $6.00 to $10.00 per 24 hours. There is no time limit for storage services.

For additional information, please contact the Airport Travel Agency at
(650) 877-0422.
