San Francisco in November
 

G'day everyone. My friend and I are travelling from Australia for a tour of east coast of USA and ending with our own trip of a few days in San Francisco (on my bucket list !) we are 60ish.
We will be free of our group and able to do whatever we might wish.
Obviously we want to go to Fisherman's Wharf and ride on a Cable Car...
we were thinking of perhaps a little half day tour? Any suggestions?
Or other ideas that would be relaxing and fun.
And also coming into your Autumn (Fall) from our Spring .. what should we wear?
We are also doing NYC and Toronto ... so I think it will be cooler for that part of our journey.

To get around, while walking is the best way, Using SF Muni Visitor Pass is the least expensive way to get around and also inlcudes Cable Car, which otherwise is $6 every single time you get on. The 3 day might work for you. At $26, it's a good value.

we only pray for rain in NOVEMBER! The weather is generally cool but not Midwest cold. Always have a jacket, sweatshirt with you and an umbrella may bring us good luck!

Fishermans Wharf is incredibly tacky, full of shops selling cheap trinkets and, yes, clothing with the city's name....lots of it. Hence the sarcasm.

The suggestions in the link above are good.
While at Coit a Tower, look for the Filbert Steps (on the list of stairways cited); you'll feel almost like you're in the country, in the middle of the city. Flower gardens, and a flock of wild parrots too.
The Mission is an interesting neighborhood, in transition. Shops, restaurants...
Haight-Ashbury is good for lovely painted houses, and the unique art/fabric/hardware store Mendel's.
I like walking on Ocean Beach (at the far end of GG park). And the weird buffalo enclosure in GG Park (yeah, I know....don't have to say it).
You could easily spend all your time in the city, but there are tours to Muir Woods and beach, hiking on Angel Island, ferry to Sausalito, Bart to Berkeley to wander around campus and hills....
