San Francisco in Horrible Weather - Need Advice in a Hurray
In SF for 2 days tomorrow and Tuesday. Weather is supposed to be horrible, rain and strong winds. Any suggestions on tour companies and best things to do in the rain? All help appreciated.

get an umbrella and do the same things you would do if it wasn't raining. Well except - not if you were planning to walk across the Golden gate Bridge . . .
If it gets REALLY windy - then do inside things like shop around Union Sq/SF Center, or go to the DeYoung and Academy of Sciences in the park.

I agree with janisj. You don't melt in the rain as my mom used to say and it may make your vacation more of an adventure. Check with the people at the front desk of your hotel and they can also give you suggestions. Good luck.

Also January and February are normally the rainy season in SF, so unless this trip is in conjunction with a conference, it might not have been best to come now.
The weather on the other side of the Bay is often significantly different, so these might be good days to visit Berkeley and Oakland.
Finally, my son was in SF all last week and despite predictions of rain, it was pretty good -- if not sunny -- weather.

Tuesday there is a free tour of the Palace Hotel by "City Guides" http://www.sfcityguides.org/desc.html?tour=61 when you finish that your can join the City Guides for a tour of the Ferry Building http://www.sfcityguides.org/desc.html?tour=25 after that do some shopping there and have a leisurely lunch.
You can watch the rain and fog roll in at the Top of the Mark - nice place for an afternoon cocktail, or have lunch. http://www.intercontinentalmarkhopki...op_of_the_mark
Or, How about a museum? Check out the fine arts museum www.famsf.org/deyoung/index.asp and the museum of modern art www.sfmoma.org

They got the weather predictions accurate this time - it is quite rainy here.
Rainey day ideas:
Palace Hotel & Ferry Building tours, like Margo mentioned
Jeremiah O'Brien Liberty ship tour
http://www.ssjeremiahobrien.org/
Academy of Science
DeYoung
Lunch at the Cliff House & watch the storms come in
Embarcadero Center - but it is mostly chain stores now.
These are "all Calif" storms - so heading across the bay won't gain you anything.

SFMOMA was going to be my suggestion as well - over the weekend there was an article about their new exhibit featuring photographs of California from the 1840s to the present. That looks really interesting.
Academy of Science and the DeYoung would be great too - I think each of those could keep a person busy most of the day.

Others have given you terrific ideas for rainy days in
The City.
You won't melt in the rain.
We desperately need this rain, so it ain't "horrible"
from our point of view...
You'll have a great time if you want to...

It's pouring and we just had some hail. Just to reiterate what Stu said, the only weather differences you get in the Bay Area are generally in summer -- in winter, it's usually the same everywhere.
By the way, I work in the Embarcadero Center and can't imagine why a tourist would spend 5 minutes there! I'd stick with MOMA and the Academy of Sciences, or if you happen to have young children with you, the Exploratorium. There is a Cartier exhibit at the Legion of Honor that may be interesting.

Yes, I recall Taylor & Ng, I have a set of coffee mugs from them. Still quite lovely.
Have to agree with sf7307 about the Embarcadero Center-
it wasn't all that interesting when I was with PG&E
at 77 Beale, less than 35 years ago.
