San Francisco in Feb?

Hello

DH and I usually try to go somewhere for our anniversary in Feb. However it is not the best time of year to travel to most locations. How is San Francisco that time of year? We would like to spend a long weekend exploring the sights and eating at some nice restaurants. Thanks.

In February the average high is 61, the average low is 49, and the average rain fall is about 4 inches. Great weather for walking around town, if you have an umbrella handy. Should be fun.

We've done a few Valentine's Day trips to SF and never had a problem.

Good luck and happy anniv!

Hi Momto, often the SF/Bay Area has beautiful weather in February. My late husband's birthday was in February and if we couldn't get away on a trip we would go to SF for a few nights. We always had a wonderful time. Some hotels have umbrellas in the rooms so you might want to check to see if your hotel provides them. And you will not necessarily need it. But even in the rain SF is wonderful.

L'Italy....

Ohhhhh yeahhhhhhhhhhhh.

LoveItaly Jul 7th, 2008 08:14 PM

Hey Kal, are you getting smokey sky and horrible smokey air again? We are. Brillant red sun awhile ago. No word as to where the fire is this time.

I wish I was in SF!

Kal Jul 7th, 2008 08:17 PM

LI,
Yes.

Looked so "Science Fictiony" all day long.

I just saw the Weather Channel and 110 the next 2-3 days.
HYDRATE!!!!! Your eyes, too!

LoveItaly Jul 7th, 2008 09:48 PM

But Kal..WHERE IS THE FIRE???

A neighbor told me she had "heard" that with the change of the wind we were getting the horrible smoke from the Big Sur fire. But we don't have any wind. And I can't find anything online regarding a new fire in our valley. It is strange. Yes, eyes, mine were burning when I got home from the store.

I'm curious about the smoke. We drove along Interstate 80 across California to the Bay area Sunday and encountered lots of smoky air in the mountains. I thought the fires were well south of there. Are there closer fires, or was the smoke from fires farther south? It did seem a little hazy yesterday in San Francisco, but I don't know whether it's always like that, and I didn't smell smoke the way I did up in the mountains.

Hi MomtoCCC,

February is often rainy, cool and changeable here in San Francisco. I say "changeable" because we often get a 5-day stretch of remarkably warmer weather in late January or early February before going back to the rain pattern. Although the calendar says it's still winter, in February the plum trees and quinces are already in blossom here, so it doesn't look wintry or tired. I say go for it - bring a brolly and some shoes that can stand up to puddles.

Nikki, it's my understanding that the smoke we are getting in San Francisco is from fires to the north. Something about the direction of the wind. I've definitely been seeing it, feeling it, and smelling it both in San Francisco (at work) and Burlingame (home)!

MichelleY Jul 8th, 2008 08:34 AM

Loveitaly: Sacto news last night said our bad air is coming from the fires up north and 2 fires along I-80 near Foresthill & Blue Canyon. It is so unbelievably hot and miserable outside. It was already 80 degrees in Sacto at 8 am!!!

Stay inside by your computer :)

MY

LoveItaly Jul 8th, 2008 08:39 AM

Good morning MichelleY! Yes, I will stay indoors and hope you can too. Thank you for the information. Our stupid local news never has any important details. It is suppose to get up to 109 today, imagine you will have the same. And we have smokey sky and air again.

But instead of spending the day by the computer I should do some vacuuming cleaning, lol.

Hi dmlove, I didn't know SF was having bad air too. Take care. This is one year I at least am looking forward to winter.

MomtoCCC Jul 8th, 2008 09:11 AM

Good to hear... guess I will get planning a long weekend trip for us! :)
Now decisions, decisions.. where to stay? where to eat? what to see?? I've been gathering info from here and other sites..

Q: Anyone had good luck using Hotwire for SanFran?

november_moon Jul 8th, 2008 09:49 AM

I haven't tried Hotwire for SF, but have had great luck with Priceline.

And I think you guys are right about the smoke coming from the north. We drove down from Lassen on Sunday and the smoke was so bad through the valley that we couldn't even see the Sutter Buttes from I-5. Usually we play the who-sees-em-first game. But this time we couldn't see them at all.

FainaAgain Jul 8th, 2008 10:10 AM

Kal always uses Priceline in San Francisco. Kal, stop smoking and help Momto :)

Kal Jul 8th, 2008 08:02 PM

Priceline about 90% of the time and Hotwire the other.

Priceline I pick Union Square East/Embarcadero most the time unless there is some running event that begins/ends near Aquatic Park then it's Fish Wharf.

We've stayed at 4* hotels for anywhere from $55/night to $125/night in SF.

Faina...hack hack...coff coff....
Still terrible up here.

LoveItaly Jul 8th, 2008 11:18 PM

Coff, Coff for sure Kal although tonight it is better where I am than last night. But it is still hot! It got up to 112 and is now 90 degrees.
