San Francisco in August -- what to do?
 

Where would you suggest taking your boss out to dinner, medium priced? In from out of town, what are some fun things to do with co-workers? What MUST SEE things should I go to?

Go see Beach Blanket Babylon, really funny.
Farmers market on Saturday mornings across from the ferry terminal, get the fixins for a picnic and take the ferry to Sausalito.
Palace of Fine Arts
Chinatown is always good for dinner, check the guidebooks and ask some locals for recommendations.

Fisherman's Wharf is a MUST for any tourist to San Francisco. And just a few blocks from there are Ghiradeli Square, Pier 39 (or something like that). These are great tourist spots to take the co-workers. What about the Golden Gate Bridge? Alcatraz?

Spinnakers in Sausilito is really a great restaurant. It is right on the bay. There is a
wonderful drive by the Golden Gate Bridge (north) thatlooks out over the ocean. I can't remember what
it is called. Muir Woods, north of the City is also wonderful. Enjoy. It is a beautiful city.

Don't forget a trip to the wine country, visit some vineyards, do some wine tasting!

Penny: We enjoyed Fior d'Italia in North Beach. My girlfriend loved their eggplant parmesan. Also McCormick & Kuleto's at Ghirardelli Square for seafood. We also enjoyed the cabaret show at the Plush Room in the York Hotel.

dinner for the boss requires some research. the restaurant ratings at Fodors are good as you can put in price and cuisine restraints. Another one to try is http://www.sfgate.com/eguide/food/best100
this is a list and review of best 100 in SF are by the big daily papers. You can compare these to Fodors and Zagats restaurant surveys. Seldom on any list but a great view and somewhere many SF people haven't been is Skates on the Bay in Berkley which sits on stilts in SF Bay and you can watch the sunset and the lights on the Bridge and San Fran at sunset with very good California cuisine: wood grilled fish with fresh sauces, nice wine list not outrageous.

Fisherman's Wharf is so very, very touristy--don't take the boss to that or Pier 39--only the Tshirt group with kids go there! McCormick and Kuleto's is good at Ghirardelli (gear-a-delli) Square. Pretty view of the bay. The hottest new restaurant in SF is Rose Pistola in North Beach (which is Little Italy) From there you can walk to a performance of Beach Blanket Babylon--which even us locals take our houseguests to!! Other walking restaurants in the area are Moose's, Washington Square Bar and Grill and Fior D'Italia. Make sure you get your tickets to BBB ahead and make a reservation at these popular restaurants. You don't say where you live, but if you want a Chinatown Dim Sum lunch, try the Empress of China on Grant--it's touristy but quite authentic. Have fun! P.S. I agree with Sausalito--over the Golden Gate and then have lunch at a window table at Scoma's--again reserve and be forceful when requesting the window!! The fish is good--don't however, go to the Scoma's on Fisherman's Wharf!! If you must have seafood on the bay in SF go to the Waterfront--on the Embarcadero or the previously mentioned McCormick and Kuleto's. Near Union Square, try Kuleto's, the orginal Pat Kuleto restaurant or Stars--very trendy, but very upscale if you have an expense account.
