That is, a half-mile to the Cliff House. Land's End is on the other side of the Cliff House.

sf7307: I don't want to get into a pissing contest with you over where Land's End is in San Francisco, but this traveler will not have car and I'm certain you don't want her traipsing vainly all over Golden Gate Park looking for Land's End.

Fact is, Land's End is part of a totally different park. It is part of the Fort Miley Reservation, of which the most outstanding use is the Veterans Hospital there.

Have you ever driven inside the hospital grounds? I did once, by mistake, and the views are stunning.

ac291: take Dayenu's advice. She's one of the few that really knows the SF public transportation system. Take the 38 bus and just tell the driver you want to go to Land's End or that you want the 48th and Geary stop. Go onto Google and click on the little blue bus sign and you'll see the bus route.

Have a nice day, y'all, especially you, sf7307.

Oops, forgot to link to the Yelp page on the Land's End Trail. This site has a ton of photos to give you a feel for the wild beauty of the place.

sf7307: I highly recommend the trail, if you haven't been. Peace.

Sorry about vagueness. I don't live in the Bay area, though I used to go there a lot for work. To get to the Pacific, I think I took an F car, changed to the N line and we passed what seems to be from the schedule the Pacific Medical Center, Davies, in a hilly area. Then a l-o-n-g boring stretch before reaching the ocean. I have always returned by a bus, one leaving from as far north as the Legion of Honor but another just north of the park and I think another along Geary.

Why? Because it is amusing to wet my fingers or toes in both the Atlantic and Pacific in a single day, easy to do given the time change.

<<<There is a trolley that takes a very interesting route past the Medical Center to the Pacific.>>>

I wondered too... must be line N! It does get interesting after it's out of the underground.
