Please read the reviews of the King George Hotel before booking.

I can't speak to the Yelp reviews, but the TripAdvisor reviews are 4*. I have talked to one person who liked staying at the King George hotel, but otherwise I am ignorant of it.

The King George from the outside looks like a perfectly fine tourist-class hotel.

The Yelp reviews are mostly pretty good too.

The King George is a great location and I actually did stay there and it was perfectly fine in every way. "tourist class" is a good description, but there was nothing wrong with it -- however, this was a couple decades ago, I will admit so I don't know what it would be like inside now. The outside hasn't changed, I was just there a year or two ago.

I'd trust Tripadvisor more than Yelp, for a better cross-section. Let's face it, what can one expect for that price, it's probably a lot better than many others mentioned. A lot of people have such unrealistic ideas about hotel costs in major cities, they want a hotel for $100 with free parking in a central area. This seems impossible to me, for heaven's sake, a budget chain motel like Super 8 costs around $70-800 in my hometown which is a small town in central Ohio.

King George is a good central location - but right in the middle of nothing but cement. Still prefer staying down by the Golden Gate end of Lombard, where you can walk around and enjoy the hopefully good SF Weather. :)

And if you read through enough Trip Advisor reviews, you can generally get a pretty good idea about any place, although there will always be a few differing opinions.

I do like Yelp for Food - but think Chowhound is really better.
